What are IQ, EQ, AQ?
IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient, used to refer to an individual's intelligence quotient. The IQ score is compiled through standardized tests designed to assess human intelligence.
A high IQ score implies that the individual possesses good reasoning abilities and superior intellect, easily solving life's problems, and often achieving high accomplishments in academics and work.
EQ stands for Emotional Quotient, abbreviated from the term referring to emotional intelligence, defined as an individual's capacity to identify their own and others' emotions. Simply put, it measures human emotional intelligence.
The EQ score reflects one's ability to control their emotions, thoughts, and social communication skills with those around them. People with high EQ scores typically have better mental health, job performance, and lifestyles.
AQ stands for Adversity Quotient, meaning the resilience quotient. Simply, AQ is a score measuring a person's ability to cope with life's adversities.
AQ measures through a series of indicators such as perseverance, emotional control, ability to seek and leverage opportunities, and risk-facing capability. This capacity is believed to be trainable and developable through life challenges and hardships.

Is IQ a criterion for grading upper secondary school students?
Article 15 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulates awards for students as follows:
Awards
- The principal awards certificates to students
a) Year-end awards
- Awarding the title "Excellent Student" to those with year-round training results evaluated as Good, academic performance evaluated as Good, and at least 6 subjects evaluated with a combination of comments and scores achieving an average score of 9.0 or higher.
- Awarding the title "Good Student" to those with year-round training results evaluated as Good and academic performance evaluated as Good.
b) Awards for students with extraordinary achievements in training and studying during the school year.
- Students with special achievements are considered for higher-level awards by the school.
Thus, the grading of upper secondary school students is based on training results and academic performance. Therefore, IQ is not a direct criterion for grading upper secondary school students.
Are upper secondary school students in Vietnam with low IQ, EQ, AQ required to repeat the grade?
Article 12 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulates as follows:
Promotion, summer remediation, non-promotion
- Students who meet the following conditions are promoted or certified as having completed the lower secondary or upper secondary program:
a) Year-round training results (including results reassessed after summer training according to Article 13 of this Circular) evaluated as Pass or higher.
b) Year-round academic performance (including reassessment results for subjects according to Article 14 of this Circular) evaluated as Pass or higher.
c) No more than 45 school days of absence in a school year (calculated according to the educational plan of 1 session/day stipulated in the General Education Program, including both excused and unexcused absences, continuous or non-continuous).
Students required to train during the summer follow the regulations in Article 13 of this Circular; students required to reassess subjects during the summer follow the regulations in Article 14 of this Circular.
Students who do not meet the requirements specified in Clause 1 of this Article are not promoted or not certified as having completed the lower secondary or upper secondary program.
For disabled students: The principal bases on the evaluation results of disabled students according to Article 11 of this Circular to consider promotion or certification of completion of the lower secondary or upper secondary program.
Thus, there is no regulation stating that upper secondary school students with low IQ, EQ, AQ are required to repeat the grade.
Therefore, students who meet the following conditions will be promoted:
- Year-round training results (including reassessment results after summer training) evaluated as Pass or higher.
- Year-round academic performance (including reassessment results for subjects) evaluated as Pass or higher.
- No more than 45 days of absence in a school year (calculated according to the educational plan of 1 session/day stipulated in the General Education Program, including both excused and unexcused absences, continuous or non-continuous).
