Based on Section IV of the Appendix for the General Literature Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the literary competence required after studying grade 8 Literature is as follows:
- Understand the message, thoughts, emotions, and attitude of the author in the text; recognize literary scripts, novels, and Nom verse stories, regulated poetry, and free verse, tragedies, and comedies; content and form of literary works and literary imagery;
- Recognize and analyze the effects of some formal elements and artistic devices of each literary genre (the blend of the narrator's words and the character's words, perspective, conflict, poetic rules, structure, vocabulary, emotional flow; rhetorical devices like repetition, wordplay, sarcasm, irony).
- Recognize some general features of Vietnamese literary history; understand literature's impact on one's life.
Thus, students are required to recognize and analyze rhetorical devices such as repetition, wordplay, sarcasm, and irony according to grade 8 Literature curriculum.

Based on the regulations in Article 2 of Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:
The general education program is implemented according to the following schedule:
1. From the academic year 2020-2021 for grade 1.
2. From the academic year 2021-2022 for grades 2 and 6.
3. From the academic year 2022-2023 for grades 3, 7, and 10.
4. From the academic year 2023-2024 for grades 4, 8, and 11.
5. From the academic year 2024-2025 for grades 5, 9, and 12.
