I. Steps to Write an Argumentative Essay About a Literary Work

Step 1: Understand the topic and find the main ideas

Identify three main requirements:

- Content requirement: The literary work to be discussed. The main ideas to be developed in the essay.

- Method requirement: The rhetorical devices used in the work (explanation, analysis, proof, commentary, etc.)

- Scope of evidence: within the literary work (or excerpt).

Step 2: Outline the argumentative essay about a literary work

Step 3: Write the essay

- Develop the essay based on the system of arguments, evidence, and proofs that have been constructed (according to the outline).

- When developing the arguments, evidence, and proofs, it is necessary to show the writer's appreciation and personal opinions about the work. The writer's thoughts about the characters and events in the work.

- There should be natural and logical connections between the sections and paragraphs of the essay.

  1. Evaluation forms for subjects:

a) Evaluation by comments for the following subjects: Physical Education, Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential Activities, Career Orientation; educational results by subject are evaluated by comments according to one of two levels: Pass, Not Pass.

b) Evaluation by comments combined with score evaluation for subjects in the General Education Program, except for the subjects specified in point a of this clause; educational results by subject are evaluated on a 10-point scale, if another scale is used, it must be converted to the 10-point scale. The evaluation score is an integer or decimal, rounded to the nearest tenth.

Thus, there are two forms of evaluation for grade 11 subjects: evaluation by comments with two levels, Pass and Not Pass, and evaluation by comments combined with score evaluation.

Evaluation by comments is applied for the following subjects: Physical Education, Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential Activities, Career Orientation.

Other subjects are evaluated by comments combined with score evaluation.

What are regulations on classification of the academic results for each semester and the whole year of grade 11 students in Vietnam?

Based on Clause 2, Article 9 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, for subjects evaluated by comments combined with score evaluation, the average subject score per semester (DTBmhk) is used to evaluate students' academic results for each semester, and the annual average subject score (DTBmcn) is used to evaluate students' academic results for the whole year. Students' academic results for each semester and the whole year are classified into one of four levels: Excellent, Good, Pass, Not Pass. To be specific:

Excellent Level:

- All subjects evaluated by comments are at the Pass level.

- All subjects evaluated by comments combined with score evaluation have DTBmhk and DTBmcn of 6.5 points or higher, of which at least 6 subjects have DTBmhk and DTBmcn of 8.0 points or higher.

Good Level:

- All subjects evaluated by comments are at the Pass level.

- All subjects evaluated by comments combined with score evaluation have DTBmhk and DTBmcn of 5.0 points or higher, of which at least 6 subjects have DTBmhk and DTBmcn of 6.5 points or higher.

Pass Level:

- At most one subject evaluated by comments is at the Not Pass level.

- At least 6 subjects evaluated by comments combined with score evaluation have DTBmhk and DTBmcn of 5.0 points or higher; no subject has DTBmhk or DTBmcn below 3.5 points.

Not Pass Level: Other cases.
