What content does Grade 6 Math textbooks in Vietnam include?
Pursuant to Article 5 Regulations on standards, the process of compiling, editing textbooks; standards for organizations and individuals compiling textbooks; organization and activity of the National Council for Textbook Appraisal issued together with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT, the content of Grade 6 Math textbooks must meet the following conditions:
- The content of textbooks must accurately and fully reflect the content of the subject program; ensure fundamental, scientific, practical aspects, and suitability to Vietnam’s reality.
- Terms, concepts, definitions, figures, events, and images must be accurate, objective, consistent, and suitable to the students' levels; data, events, and images must have clear origins.
- The latest scientific achievements related to the subject program must be updated, meet international integration requirements, and align with the goals of the subject program.
- Educational content on national sovereignty, human rights, children's rights, gender equality, sustainable development, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation must be reasonably demonstrated.
What is the textbook selection process for Grade 6 Math in educational institutions in Vietnam?
Under Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT, the textbook selection process for Grade 6 Math in educational institutions is stipulated as follows:
- The council devises a plan to organize the selection of textbooks in the educational institution; assigns tasks to the council members.
- Organize the selection of Grade 6 Math textbooks within the professional team:
+ Based on the council’s plan and textbook selection criteria, the head of the professional team develops a plan to organize the selection of textbooks for each subject within the professional team, reports to the head of the institution before implementation;
+ Organize for all subject teachers within the educational institution (including tenured, contracted, seconded, visiting, and inter-school teachers) to participate in the selection of the subject's textbooks;
+ No later than 20 days before the first meeting of the professional team, the head of the professional team organizes for the subject teachers to study the textbooks, write review notes, and evaluate textbooks according to the textbook selection criteria;
+ The head of the professional team organizes meetings with the subject teachers to discuss and vote to select one textbook for that subject.
In case the subject has only one textbook approved by the Minister of Education and Training, the professional team selects the textbook specified in the decision without voting.
The selected textbook must be voted for by at least half of the subject teachers or more.
In case no textbook receives more than half of the votes from the subject teachers, the professional team must discuss and vote again; the selected textbook is the one that received the highest number of votes in the second round.
In both rounds of voting, if there are two textbooks with an equal highest number of votes, the head of the professional team will decide to choose one of those textbooks.
The meetings of the professional team must be minuted, including all comments and evaluations of the participating subject teachers, with signatures of the head of the professional team and the person assigned to record the minutes;
+ The head of the professional team summarizes the results and compiles a list of textbooks selected by the professional team with the signatures of the head of the professional team and the person assigned to prepare the textbook list.
- The council meets, discusses, evaluates the organization of textbook selection by the professional teams; reviews the minutes of the professional team meetings; the review and evaluation notes of the textbooks by the teachers according to Section 2, Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT; summarizes the textbook selection results of the professional teams into a report (including comments and evaluations on the textbook selection organization by the professional teams; the list of textbooks selected by the professional teams), with signatures of the Chairman and Secretary of the council.
- The council proposes to the head of the institution the list of textbooks selected by the professional teams according to Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT.
- The educational institution prepares the textbook selection dossier and submits it to the Department of Education and Training (for primary and lower secondary levels), or the Department of Education and Training (for upper secondary level).
