When will the 2024-2025 academic year in Vietnam end?​

Based on the timeframe for the 2024-2025 school year outlined in Article 1 of Decision 2045/QĐ-BGDĐT 2024:

Issuance of the timetable for the 2024-2025 school year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education applicable nationwide as follows:

1. The earliest school start shall be one week before the date of the school opening ceremony. For grade 1, the earliest school start shall be two weeks before the school opening ceremony.

2. The school opening ceremony shall take place on September 5, 2024.

3. The first semester shall end before January 18, 2025, and the program and school year shall be completed before May 31, 2025.

4. Examination for primary program completion and secondary school graduation recognition shall be conducted before June 30, 2025.

5. Completion of admissions for new students before July 31, 2025.

6. The high school graduation exam for 2025 is expected to take place on June 26 and 27, 2025.

7. Other national exams shall be organized according to regulations and guidance from the Ministry of Education and Training.

Therefore, the 2024-2025 school year will end before May 31, 2025.

What are regulations on students' ages and grade levels in the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam?

Article 28 of the Education Law 2019 provides regulations on levels and ages of general education as follows:

Levels and ages of general education

1. The levels and ages of general education are regulated as follows:

a) Primary education lasts for 5 years, from grade one to the end of grade five. The age for entering grade one is six years old and is calculated by year;

b) Lower secondary education lasts for 4 years, from grade six to the end of grade nine. Students entering grade six must have completed the primary program. The age for entering grade six is eleven years old and is calculated by year;

c) Upper secondary education lasts for 3 years, from grade ten to the end of grade twelve. Students entering grade ten must have a lower secondary diploma. The age for entering grade ten is fifteen years old and is calculated by year.

2. Students may advance grades or be older than the age specified in Clause 1 of this Article in cases including:

a) Students advancing grades in case of early intellectual development;

b) Students being older than the specified age in cases of repeating grades, students from socio-economically disadvantaged regions, ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, students with poor physical or intellectual development, orphaned students without support, students from impoverished households, students returning from abroad, and other cases as regulated by law.

3. General education is divided into fundamental education and career-oriented education phases. Fundamental education includes primary and lower secondary levels; career-oriented education is the upper secondary level. Students in vocational education institutions may study the upper secondary cultural knowledge load.

4. The Minister of Education and Training sets regulations on Vietnamese language teaching for children from ethnic minorities before entering grade one; cultural knowledge teaching loads in vocational education; cases specified in Clause 2 of this Article.

Thus, the ages of students in the 2024-2025 school year corresponding to grade levels are as follows:
