What are characteristics of grade 12 History in Vietnam?
According to the General Education Program issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the grade 12 History and the upper secondary school level in general are prescribed as follows:
- History is a subject belonging to the Social Sciences group, chosen according to career orientation at the upper secondary school level.
- The History subject has the mission to help students form and develop historical competence, a component of scientific competence, contributing to the development of key qualities and general abilities identified in the overall Program.
- The History subject plays a leading role in educating patriotism, national pride, historical and cultural traditions, helping students understand and apply historical lessons to solve real-life problems, developing perspectives, reinforcing human values, community spirit, tolerance, and benevolence; contributing to the formation and development of qualities of Vietnamese citizens and global citizens in the era's development trend.
- The History subject forms and develops for students historical thinking, systematic thinking, critical thinking, skills to exploit and use historical sources, perceiving and presenting history in chronological and simultaneous logic, connecting the past with the present.
- The History subject helps students recognize the scientific and practical value of history in modern social life, understand and love the history, culture of the nation and humanity; contributes to guiding students in career choices such as: researching social sciences and humanities, diplomacy, management, tourism activities, cultural industries, information communication,...
- The History subject's program systematizes, consolidates general historical knowledge at the basic education stage while helping students explore core historical knowledge more deeply through study topics, subjects about world history, Southeast Asian history, and Vietnamese history. The teaching method of the History subject is implemented on the basis of fundamental principles of history and modern educational methods.
