Under Subsection 5, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations on minimum knowledge and competency requirements for graduates at intermediate and college levels in the fields of health and social service, which are promulgated together with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLD-TBXH, graduates of college-level Medical Imaging Equipment Technology in Vietnam may do the following jobs:
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair X-ray machines;
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair X-ray film processors;
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair X-ray film printers;
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair X-ray machines (C-Arm);
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair digital X-ray machines;
- Install, operate, and maintain computed tomography (CT) scanners;
- Install, operate, and maintain digital subtraction angiography (DSA) machines;
- Install, operate, and maintain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines;
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair ultrasound machines.

What is the general information on college-level Medical Imaging Equipment Technology in Vietnam?
Under Subsection 1, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations promulgated together with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLD-TBXH, the college-level Medical Imaging Equipment Technology is described as follows:
The college-level Medical Imaging Equipment Technology field involves the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and management of specialized imaging diagnostic machines, particularly meeting the level 5 requirements of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.
These are advanced devices with high precision, utilizing radiation waves or physical penetration into the patient's body, such as X-ray machines, ultrasound machines, CT scanners, etc., or using auxiliary chemicals for image printing, such as film processors and film printers, thereby requiring strict and precise safety protocols. It is mandatory to rigorously and fully comply with labor protection policies, industrial hygiene regulations, and adhere to electrical and radiation safety principles.
Medical imaging equipment technician is capable of supervising or directly participating in the installation and implementation of investment projects for diagnostic imaging equipment provided to medical facilities; operating and instructing the use of machines; maintaining and controlling the usage process of machines following equipment management procedures; repairing according to their trained capacity; conducting research, organizing auxiliary equipment for the diagnostic room effectively; advising on technical solutions, equipment investment, and enhancing the lifespan of the machines.
Individuals with a college degree can take on positions in maintenance and repair of diagnostic imaging equipment at public or private medical facilities; installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment in business units that produce and sell imaging equipment.
Minimum knowledge volume: 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
What are the minimum requirements for skills of graduates of college-level Medical Imaging Equipment Technology in Vietnam?
Under Subsection 3, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations promulgated together with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLD-TBXH, graduates of college-level Medical Imaging Equipment Technology in Vietnam must acquire the following skills:
- Develop maintenance schedules and repair plans for diagnostic imaging equipment;
- Install diagnostic imaging equipment correctly as per technical requirements;
- Operate diagnostic imaging equipment correctly following procedures;
- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance of commonly used diagnostic imaging equipment;
- Detect malfunctions and repair common failures of diagnostic imaging equipment;
- Repair equipment that utilizes advanced technology;
- Monitor, supervise, and participate in the repair process of diagnostic imaging equipment alongside engineers and technical experts;
- Maintain a logbook and record the operational status of diagnostic imaging equipment;
- Propose solutions for labor safety and environmental hygiene tasks;
- Utilize basic information technology as per regulations; exploit, process, and apply information technology in specialized tasks of the field;
- Utilize basic foreign language skills, reaching level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework; apply foreign languages in specialized tasks of the field.
