What is the process of selecting Grade 4 History and Geography textbooks by the professional team in Vietnam?

The process for selecting Grade 4 History and Geography textbooks in schools is determined based on Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT. To be specific:

- Based on the plan of the Council and the criteria for selecting textbooks, the professional team leader prepares a plan for organizing the selection of textbooks for each subject structured within the professional team, reporting to the head before implementation; organizes the participation of all subject teachers of the educational institution (including permanent, contract, seconded, invited, and multi-school teachers) in selecting textbooks for that subject;

- No later than 20 days before the first meeting of the professional team, the team leader organizes subject teachers to review the textbooks, write feedback, and evaluate the textbooks according to the selection criteria;

- The professional team leader organizes a meeting with subject teachers to discuss and vote to select one (1) textbook for that subject.

If a subject has only one textbook approved by the Minister of Education and Training, the professional team will choose the textbook in the decision without the need for voting.

The selected textbooks must be approved by at least half (1/2) of the subject teachers.

If no textbook receives votes from at least half (1/2) of the subject teachers, the professional team must discuss and vote again; the chosen textbook will be the one that receives the highest vote in the second round.

In both rounds of voting, if there are two (2) textbooks receiving the highest equal number of votes, the professional team leader will decide which one will be chosen.

All meetings of the professional team must be minuted, with detailed feedback and evaluations of the textbooks by the participating teachers, signed by the team leader and the person assigned to record the minutes;

- The professional team leader consolidates the results and prepares a list of selected textbooks signed by the team leader and the person assigned to prepare the list of textbooks.

What are the characteristics of the Grade 4 History and Geography subjects in Vietnam?

Under the General Education Program for History and Geography issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the Grade 4 History and Geography subjects are as follows:

History and Geography in primary education are compulsory subjects, taught from Grade 4.

The subject is built on the foundation and development of the Natural and Social Sciences subjects taught in Grades 1, 2, and 3, and serves as a basis for learning History and Geography at the secondary level. It also contributes to laying the initial foundation for social science education at higher levels.

The subject helps form and develop essential qualities and common competencies in students, as established in the overall curriculum.

The primary education History and Geography program (including Grade 4) encompasses basic and essential knowledge and skills about the geography and history of the local area, region, Vietnam, neighboring countries, and some fundamental aspects of world geography and history.

The content of the History and Geography program is directly related to many other subjects and educational activities such as Ethics, Vietnamese, Experiential Activities, etc.
