What Grade are 13-year-old students in Vietnam in?
Under Article 28 of the Law on Education 2019, the educational levels and entry ages are regulated as follows:
Educational levels and entry ages
1. Educational levels and age groups of general education are regulated as follows:
a) Primary education lasts for 05 school years, from the first to the fifth grade. The entry age for the first grade is 06;
b) Lower secondary education lasts for 04 school years, from the sixth to the ninth grade. Students must complete the primary education program before entering the sixth grade. The entry age for the sixth grade is 11;
c) Upper secondary education lasts for 03 school years, from the tenth to the twelfth grade. Students must complete the lower secondary education program before entering the tenth grade. The entry age for the tenth grade is 15;
Except for cases where students are allowed to skip grades or study at an age older than the stipulated age, lower secondary education lasts for 04 school years, from the sixth to the ninth grade. The entry age for the sixth grade is 11.
Thus, typically, if students follow the age and progress through the grades annually, a 13-year-old student would be in the 8th Grade.

According to sub-item 2.1 Section 2 Part IV of the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT (amended and supplemented by Clause 1 Article 1 of Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT) as follows:
1. Basic education stage
1.1. Primary level
a) Educational contents
Compulsory educational subjects and activities: Vietnamese; Math; Moral; Foreign Language 1 (in grades 3, 4, 5); Nature and Society (in grades 1, 2, 3); History and Geography (in grades 4 and 5); Science (in grades 4 and 5); Informatics and Technology (in grades 3, 4, 5); Physical education; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Experiential activities.
Elective subjects: Ethnic minority languages, Foreign Languages 1 (in grades 1 and 2).
b) Duration of education
Teaching 2 sessions/day, arranging no more than 7 lessons per day; each lesson is 35 minutes. Educational institutions that are not eligible to organize teaching 2 sessions/day to implement the education plan under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.

b) Duration of education
1 lesson per day, no more than 5 lessons per session; each lesson is 45 minutes. Encourage eligible lower secondary schools to teach 2 sessions/day under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.
