- The minimum admission score for the Military Medical Academy is equal to the threshold for ensuring the quality of entrance as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) for the health sector in 2024.

- The Border Defense Academy and Officer School No. 2 admit southern candidates according to the quota per military zone, including: 2 provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue/Military Zone 4, Military Zone 5, Military Zone 7, and Military Zone 9.

- The minimum admission scores for combinations D01, D02, D04 of the Military Science Academy are the non-weighted foreign language scores.

* Minimum admission scores for Basic Military Programs in 2024

Officer School No. 1 and Officer School No. 2:

- University Education: 15.0 points.- College Education: 10.0 points.

What is the officers’ ranks and grades system in Vietnam?

Based on Article 10 of the Vietnam People's Army Officer Law 1999, the officers’ ranks and grades system comprises three ranks and twelve grades:

1. The company officer’s rank includes four grades

Second lieutenant;

Lieutenant;

Senior lieutenant;

Captain.

2. The field officer’s rank includes four grades:

Major;

Lieutenant colonel;

Senior lieutenant colonel;

Colonel.

3. The general rank include four grades:

Major general, naval rear-admiral;

Lieutenant general, naval vice-admiral;

Senior lieutenant general, naval admiral;

Who are persons to be bestowed with ranks of on-active service officers in Vietnam?

Under Article 16 of the Vietnam People's Army Officer Law 1999 as amended by Clause 5, Article 1 of the Law on Amendments to Vietnam People's Army Officer Law 2008, persons to be bestowed with ranks of on-active service officers include:

- Cadets graduating from active-service officers training schools will be bestowed the rank of second lieutenant; those who graduate with excellent or good grade in peculiar disciplines or record outstanding achievements in work will be bestowed the rank of lieutenant, or in special cases, higher ranks as provided by the Minister of Defense.

- Non-commissioned officers and soldiers during wartime; professional armymen and defense employees on active service; non-military officials and employees and university graduates or people of higher degrees, who join the army on active service and are appointed to hold posts of officers, will be bestowed the corresponding ranks of officers.

What are the regulations on rank promotion for in-service officers in Vietnam?

Under Article 17 of the Vietnam People's Army Officer Law 1999, as amended by Clause 4, Article 1 of the Law on Amendments to Vietnam People's Army Officer 2014, the rank promotion for in-service officers is specified as follows:

- In-service officers may be rank-promoted when fully satisfying the following conditions:

+ All the conditions prescribed in Article 12 of Vietnam People's Army Officer Law 1999;

+ Their current army ranks are lower than the highest army rank prescribed for their incumbent positions or titles;

+ The duration for rank promotion consideration prescribed at Clause 2 of Article 17, Vietnam People's Army Officer Law 1999 as amended by Clause 4, Article 1 of the Law on Amendments to Vietnam People's Army Officer 2014 has expired.

- The durations for rank promotion consideration for in-service officers are prescribed as follows:

Second Lieutenant to Lieutenant: 2 years;

Lieutenant to Senior Lieutenant: 3 years;

Senior Lieutenant to Captain: 3 years;

Captain to Major: 4 years;

Major to Lieutenant Colonel: 4 years;

Lieutenant Colonel to Senior Lieutenant Colonel: 4 years;

Senior Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel: 4 years;

Colonel to Major General or Rear Naval Admiral: at least 4 years:

Major General or Rear Naval Admiral to Lieutenant General or Deputy Naval Admiral: at least 4 years;

Lieutenant General or Deputy Naval Admiral to Senior Lieutenant General or Admiral: at least 4 years;

Senior Lieutenant General or Admiral to General: at least 4 years;

The duration of officers’ study at schools shall be counted into the rank promotion duration.

- The age of in-service officers considered for rank promotion from Colonel to major General or Rear Naval Admiral must not exceed 57, except for those of higher age when so required under the President’s decisions.

- In-service officers who have recorded particularly outstanding achievements shall be considered for rank-surpass promotion, which, however, must not be beyond the highest rank for the officers’ current positions or titles.
