Sample 1: The Farmer Retells (First Person Perspective)

I am a poor man, having to work as a hired hand since childhood to make a living. One day, I came to work for a stingy rich man. He promised that if I worked hard, he would give me his daughter's hand in marriage. Trusting his promise, I worked tirelessly from morning to night. But on the day he held the wedding, I found out he intended to marry his daughter to another wealthy man. Angry and heartbroken, I argued, and he tricked me into fetching the bamboo with a hundred nodes, hoping to make it difficult for me. Luckily, in my despair, a Buddha appeared and helped me join the bamboo into a hundred nodes with just a magic spell. Thanks to that, I made him keep his promise, and in the end, I married the one I loved.

Sample 2: The Daughter Retells (First Person Perspective)

I am the daughter of a rich man, but honestly, my father is very greedy and often deceives others. He had a poor servant work for him, promising to marry me to the servant if he performed well. But he never intended to keep his promise! On the wedding day, he planned to marry me off to another wealthier man. I felt sorry for the servant and didn't know what to do. Fortunately, with the Buddha's help, the servant found the bamboo with a hundred nodes that my father requested. When he used the magic to make my father stuck on the bamboo, my father finally kept his promise. Despite our different backgrounds, I truly admire the servant's gentle, hardworking nature, and eventually, we lived happily together.

Sample 3: The Villagers Retell (Third Person Perspective)

Long ago, in our village, there was a notoriously stingy landlord. He took in a poor man as a servant and promised to marry his daughter to him if he worked hard. For years, he worked tirelessly, but on the wedding day, the landlord reneged on his promise and intended to marry his daughter to another wealthy man. Seeing the servant oppose, the landlord feigned and asked him to find the bamboo with a hundred nodes, thinking it was impossible. Yet, miraculously, the servant met a Buddha and used the magic spell "Vanishing, Assemble," to make the landlord keep his promise. Our entire village rejoiced for the kind servant and took it as a lesson for the greedy and faithless.

Sample 4: The Landlord Retells (First Person Perspective)

I admit my mistake. When I hired the servant, I truly liked him for his diligence and honesty. But I also wanted my daughter to marry into a wealthier family, so I tried to break my promise. I told him to find a bamboo with a hundred nodes, thinking it was an impossible task. To my surprise, he truly brought back a magical bamboo! I don't understand how he did it, but when I was caught on the bamboo, I panicked and knew I had to keep my promise. Seeing my daughter happy with him, I realized that money isn't everything. That's the greatest lesson of my life.

Sample 5: The Buddha Retells (First Person Perspective)

I am the Buddha, always helping the kind and virtuous. One day, I saw a poor young man crying in the bamboo forest. He told me his wealthy employer had promised to marry his daughter to him but had broken that promise and even made it difficult for him by demanding the bamboo with a hundred nodes. Moved by his honesty, I showed him how to use the magic spell "Assemble" to join the bamboo into a hundred nodes and "Vanishing" to disassemble it. Thus, he taught the rich man a lasting lesson. His story is proof that the virtuous will always receive deserved help.
