What are the regulations on grouping grades for convenience and flexibility in selecting text corpus in Vietnam?
Under Section 9, Appendix of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the suggestion for selecting texts to be included in the 3rd-grade Vietnamese Language curriculum is as follows:
- Based on the criteria for selecting texts (stated in section V) and the requirements for selecting texts (stated in section VIII), the program builds a list of suggested texts (text corpus) for selection in the grades.
This list does not comprise all text corpus but only illustrative examples of genres, types of texts, topics, and suitability with the age group's cognition and psychology; aiming to meet the requirements for reading, writing, speaking, and listening for each grade.
To facilitate and ensure flexibility in selecting text corpus, the suggested texts are grouped by grades: Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3; Grade 4 and Grade 5; Grade 6 and Grade 7; Grade 8 and Grade 9; Grade 10, Grade 11, and Grade 12 (The titles of texts in all grades are arranged in alphabetical order).
Textbook authors can use this list to select and find additional equivalent texts in terms of genre and difficulty level, provided they meet the criteria (stated in section V) and the text selection requirements (stated in section VIII).
- The texts (text corpus) suggested in this list are arranged in order according to types and genres of texts (story, poem, play, memoir, essay, information).
The number of texts in each type and genre varies, depending on the program's requirements.
The list includes both new texts and texts currently used in existing textbooks (redistributed to fit the needs of each grade), ensuring a balance between inheritance and innovation. For informational texts, the list does not specify particular text titles but only lists topics and types for textbook authors to choose.
Authors listed in this document only appear once throughout all three educational levels, except for some compulsory authors and works mentioned in the program.
To guide textbook authors in selecting suitable texts for each grade group, this list provides a distribution direction for even the required works.
Hence, for convenience and flexibility in selecting text corpus, grades should be grouped in pairs, with Grade 3 being grouped with Grade 2.
