Based on the History subject program in general education promulgated with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT in Section 1, the characteristics of the History subject in general education are as follows:
History is a subject within the Social Sciences group, chosen based on career orientation at the upper secondary level.
The mission of the History subject is to help students form and develop historical competency, a component of scientific competency, simultaneously contributing to forming and developing the primary qualities and general competencies defined in the overall program.
The History subject plays a leading role in fostering patriotism, national pride, and traditional historical and cultural values, helping students perceive and apply historical lessons to address real-life issues, develop vision, and solidify humanistic values, community spirit, tolerance, and benevolence; contribute to forming and developing the qualities of Vietnamese citizens and global citizens in the development trend of the era.
The History subject fosters and develops in students historical thinking, systematic thinking, critical thinking, skills to exploit and use historical sources, and to perceive and present history logically both diachronically and synchronically, connecting the past with the present.
The History subject helps students understand the scientific value and practical value of history in modern social life, appreciate and love the history and culture of the nation and humanity; contributes to orienting students towards careers such as social and human sciences research, diplomacy, management, tourism activities, cultural industry, communication, and information.
The History subject program organizes and consolidates generalized historical knowledge in the basic education stage while helping students delve deeper into core historical knowledge through study topics and special topics on world history, Southeast Asian history, and Vietnamese history. The History subject program helps students develop historical competency based on basic and advanced knowledge of world, regional, and Vietnamese history through a system of topics and special topics on political, economic, social, cultural history, and civilization. Historical competency consists of components: understanding history; historical awareness and thinking; application of learned knowledge and skills.
