Key Dates after the Opening Ceremony of the School Year 2024-2025 in Vietnam
According to Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024, the opening ceremony will be held on September 5, 2024. Subsequently, the following key dates for the new school year must be noted:
- The end of the first semester by January 18, 2025, completion of the curriculum, and the end of the school year by May 31, 2025.
- Evaluation for completion of the primary education program and recognition of secondary school graduation by June 30, 2025.
- Completion of admissions for the initial grades by July 31, 2025.
- The 2025 national high school graduation exam is expected to take place on June 26 and 27, 2025.
- Other national exams will be conducted following the schedules and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Implementation of the Primary Education Program and Plan after the Opening Ceremony of the New School Year 2024-2025 in Vietnam
According to Official Dispatch 3898/BGDDT-GDTH in 2024, the implementation of the primary education program and plan for the school year 2024-2025 will be as follows:
- Develop the educational plan of the school to be proactive, flexible in execution and completion of the school year's program.
The Department of Education and Training directs educational institutions to develop school educational plans, subject teaching plans, educational activities, and lesson plans as per the regulations;
- Schedule the program's implementation effectively, ensuring scientific, pedagogical principles without causing pressure on students;
- Flexibility in organizing the teaching of subjects, educational activities appropriate to the actual conditions of the locality, the school, and the students, ensuring that by the end of the school year, students achieve the required outcomes as stipulated in the program.
- Implement the general education program
The Department of Education and Training directs educational institutions to implement the primary level general education program following the specialized guidance documents on primary education issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, specifically:
- Ensure a ratio of 1 classroom per class, facilities, student-teacher ratios per class as per the primary school regulations; have sufficient minimum teaching equipment as required; ensure a ratio of 1.5 teachers per class and a proper teacher structure to teach all subjects, educational activities, and organize two teaching sessions per day as stipulated.
- Implement the teaching of compulsory subjects and elective subjects according to the primary level general education program requirements;
- Organize activities to reinforce student learning content, educational activities that meet the needs, interests, talents of students; and activities exploring the natural, social, cultural, historical, and traditional aspects of the locality.
- Organize two teaching sessions per day, each day not exceeding 7 periods, each period lasting 35 minutes; implement a minimum teaching schedule of 9 sessions per week with 32 periods per week;
- Ensure a balanced distribution of educational content, helping students complete their learning tasks, achieving program objectives;
- Provide opportunities for students to study elective subjects and participate in educational activities aimed at achieving comprehensive primary education goals;
- The timetable should be scientifically arranged, ensuring a reasonable distribution of teaching and educational activity content, suitable allocation of time, and appropriate periods during the school day and week for primary school students.
- For primary education institutions not yet capable of organizing two teaching sessions per day, based on accurate and sufficient teaching of compulsory subjects as stipulated in the program, primary education institutions are proactive in determining content, choosing organizational forms, and allocating appropriate time for elective subjects when conditions permit and other activities to reinforce the main subject and educational activities as appropriate.
- Develop a boarding stay plan with suitable content and form adapted to actual conditions, consistent, voluntary agreements with students and their parents, complying with the regulatory guidance from the managing agency;
- Boarding stay activities should be organized within the timeframe from after the morning classes until before the start of the afternoon classes, contributing to training students in life skills, necessary capacities, qualities, discipline, self-service, responsibility, sharing, and love through boarding stay activities;
- The organization of boarding stay activities should be flexible and may include activities such as organizing lunch, naps, playtime, relaxation, etc., for students; lunch and boarding activities must ensure food safety and hygiene, nutrition, and health for students.
- Organize extracurricular activities for students after official school hours are activities according to the needs and interests of students within the timeframe from after official school hours until the time they are picked up by their parents;
- Based on student needs and interests, extracurricular activities may be organized in the form of club activities or using the school's facilities (library, playground, gym, multi-purpose hall...) to provide opportunities for students to play and relax; organizing extracurricular activities in the form of club activities must be approved by the competent authorities.
