Students may refer to the following sample contest entries on the plan for the promotion of the reading culture for the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2024:
Topic: Formulate an action plan to promote the reading culture for yourself and the community, especially for children in remote areas, ethnic minority children, and children with disabilities. (specify the objectives, beneficiaries, activities to be performed, and the expected outcomes).
Sample 1
I will do my utmost to implement the most practical and appropriate measures to encourage and spread the reading culture in schools. It is essential to donate charity books to midland and mountainous areas and build small reading libraries to meet everyone's reading needs to have better access to books. I dream of opening a book club to encourage and connect book lovers, particularly young people, and bring books closer to everyone.
At school, I could rally teachers and friends to donate and collaborate with the School Library to organize a small book fair, where students can buy at student-friendly prices or exchange old books with others, so that every student gets the chance to read many books, allowing books I have found impactful to reach many others. I plan with other book lovers to hold an exhibition about some book collections, showcasing, and introducing famous books, quoting excellent passages, and interesting information from books to inspire curiosity among peers. Information about these exchanges will be widely published on the school's website and page and on the Digital Library to create a meaningful reading forum. To achieve that, I need everyone's support and assistance. "Change your mindset today; I can do it, and you can too!"
In each classroom, there's usually a small cabinet for school supplies, sports equipment, the Team newspaper, and some essential books and dictionaries for studying. I wish to fill that bookcase by having each class member contribute one book. Within a semester or school year, everyone in the class can read all these titles before the book returns to its owner. In subsequent periods, this activity will continue with each student contributing another book. To encourage students to read, they can write reviews and receive compensation for the school’s student writing page; homeroom teachers could also give bonus points or organize class discussions about the books during class activities. To achieve this, reading will become a habit and eventually a shared joy among many students.
Sample 2
Firstly, immerse yourself in books
I will spend daily time ranging from 5-10 minutes to an hour reading books, regardless of whether they are novels, academic books, or history and culture books. This is an excellent opportunity for me to expand my vocabulary and understanding. I will challenge myself with monthly reading challenges, such as reading a book on a new topic or a work by an author I have never encountered. This will help me develop deeper reading comprehension and literary appreciation.
Secondly, create a reading environment at home and school
At home, I will create a comfortable and quiet reading corner, encouraging family members to contribute books and partake in communal reading sessions. I will organize family book discussions to share and exchange about the books read, fostering a lively and engaging reading culture space. At school, I’ll collaborate with friends to propose to teachers and the school to organize interesting and meaningful reading sessions. Activities like book discussions, book quizzes, or book exhibitions could help create a positive and creative learning environment, encouraging everyone to engage in reading.
Thirdly, use technology to access books
I will use reading applications on mobile phones or online reading websites to experience books conveniently and flexibly. Some reading apps have dynamic images, note functions within books, and many other useful features, allowing me to easily access thousands of books from anywhere. I will also join online reading communities, and participate in book groups on social media, or book discussion forums to share my thoughts and opinions with other reading enthusiasts. This not only helps me connect with like-minded individuals but also expands my network of friends and knowledge.
Finally, organize reading culture events
I will propose and participate in organizing cultural book exhibitions to introduce and encourage reading books from different cultures. These events will create an interesting and rich space where people can learn about culture through books and share unique reading experiences.
We, the young generation, must invest in developing the reading culture not only to enhance our knowledge and skills but also to contribute to building a knowledgeable and developing society. Let’s work together on this plan to create a strong and thriving reading community in 2024 and beyond!
