Under Section 3 of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the General Education Program for Literature has the following overall objectives:

- To develop essential traits in students: patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility; to nurture the soul, form character, and develop individuality.

To assist students in fostering a love for Vietnamese and literature, understanding humanity, having a rich inner life, and developing a humanistic outlook and behavior; cultivating a love for Vietnamese language and literature; maintaining an awareness of national roots and cultural identity, contributing to the preservation and development of Vietnamese cultural values; foster a spirit of appreciation for the cultural quintessence of humanity and the ability to integrate internationally.

- To contribute to helping students develop general competencies: autonomy and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity.

Literature (Vietnamese language) helps students develop linguistic competence and literary competence: refining skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening; possessing foundational general knowledge about Vietnamese language and literature, developing both imaginative and logical thinking, contributing to forming a fundamental education for a cultured person; the ability to compose common texts; the ability to receive and evaluate literary works specifically, communication products, and aesthetic values in general in life.

Under Section 5 of the General Education Program for Literature issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the required outcomes for the 5th-grade Vietnamese Language subject in general or for the book series "Creative Horizons" must be based on the specific general education framework of the subject as follows:

*Required essential traits and general competencies

The Literature subject contributes to shaping and developing essential traits and general skills in students according to levels appropriate to the subject and educational level specified in the Overall Program.

In addition, based on Section 4 of the General Education Program for Literature issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the specific skills required for completing the Vietnamese Language program in Grade 5 include:

[1] Required language competencies:

- Correct, fluent, and expressive reading of texts; understanding of the main content of passages, primarily explicit content; initial understanding of implicit content such as themes and lessons learned from the texts read.

- At the elementary level, reading requirements include both technical reading proficiency and reading comprehension skills. For students in lower grades (Grade 1, Grade 2), it focuses on both reading accuracy at an appropriate pace and understanding the simple content of texts.

For students in Grade 3, Grade 4, and Grade 5, more focus is given to understanding specific content, themes, and lessons drawn from texts.

- From Grade 1 to Grade 3, correct spelling, vocabulary, grammar; ability to write some sentences and short paragraphs; in Grades 4 and 5, initial ability to write short, complete essays, primarily narrative and descriptive essays and simple introductions.

- Ability to write narratives of stories read, events witnessed, participated in, or stories imagined by students; describe familiar objects and phenomena; introduce objects and activities close to students' lives.

- Write paragraphs expressing feelings and thoughts of students when reading a story or poem, experiencing an event that evokes many emotions; express opinions on simple learning and life issues; write various types of texts such as: autobiographies, messages, invitations, schedules, application forms, etc.; initial understanding of the writing process; the essay should include an introduction, body, and conclusion.

- Clearly express ideas and emotions; initial use of gestures and appropriate expressions when speaking; clearly narrate the story read or heard; know how to share and exchange feelings, attitudes, and thoughts on discussed issues; able to explain a simple object or process.

- Listen with appropriate attitudes and grasp the basic content; recognize the speaker’s emotions; know how to respond to what has been heard.

- Differentiate between fictional prose and poetry (prose paragraphs, poems); recognize the content of texts and the writer's attitude and feelings; initially understand the effect of some literary elements (language, characters, plot, rhyme, comparison, personification).

- For students in Grades 3, 4, and 5: know how to read literary texts expressively; summarize the main content of stories and poems; comment on characters, events, and the author's attitude; recognize time and place, some types of rhyme, rhythm, vocabulary, beautiful and unique images, and the effect of rhetorical devices such as personification and comparison.

- Understand the meaning or the lesson drawn from a text. Write stories and descriptive essays showing emotions and imaginative or associative ability.
