- General Requirements:

+ Compare texts with each other, relate to personal life experiences; thus form personal perspectives, thoughts, and feelings about life, enriching spiritual life.
- Requirements for grades 8 and 9: Write complete descriptive, argumentative, and expository essays following proper steps and combine expressive techniques.
- Narrative texts should focus on creatively retelling read stories; witnessed and participated events; imaginative stories that include descriptive and expressive elements;
- Descriptive texts should focus on depicting activities (descriptive of activities); expressive texts about landscapes and people, and expressions of literary works;
- Know how to create poems, mainly to recognize characteristics of familiar poetic forms;
- Write argumentative texts expressing personal thoughts and opinions on relevant issues, with fairly simple arguments and easily found evidence;
- Write expository texts about familiar issues in students' lives and knowledge with common structures;
- Fill in forms, compose practical documents such as job memoranda, emails, reports, advertisements, and interviews.
- Write correctly according to procedures, know how to find materials to meet writing requirements; have knowledge about intellectual property rights and know how to cite texts.
- Present ideas and emotions clearly; be confident when speaking in front of many people; use appropriate language and gestures when speaking.
- Clearly narrate read or heard stories; know how to share feelings, attitudes, experiences, and ideas about discussed issues; discuss opinions on read or heard issues; explain an object or process.
- Know how to speak appropriately to the purpose, audience, and communication context; use images, symbols, charts, etc., to present issues effectively.
- Listen with an appropriate attitude and summarize content; recognize and initially evaluate the arguments and evidence used by the speaker.

- For grades 8 and 9:
+ Understand the message, thoughts, emotions, and attitudes of the author in the text; recognize literary scripts, novels, narrative poems, regulated and free verse, tragedies, and comedies.
+ Understand the content and form of literary works, literary images; recognize and analyze the effects of some artistic elements and techniques of each literary genre (the combination of narrator’s voice and character’s voice, point of view, conflict, poetic rules, structure, language, lyrical emotional flow).
+ Recognize rhetorical devices such as repetition, wordplay, irony, and paradox. Recognize some general aspects of Vietnamese literary history; understand the impact of literature on personal life.
