What is the timeline framework for the 2024-2025 academic year in Vietnam?

On August 01, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT year 2024 on the Framework for the school year time plan 2024-2025 for preschool education, general education, and continuing education.

The Ministry of Education and Training issued the framework for the school year time plan 2024-2025 applicable nationwide as follows:

- The earliest school start is 1 week before the opening ceremony. Particularly for grade 1, the earliest school start is 2 weeks before the opening ceremony.

- Organize the opening ceremony on September 05, 2024.

- End of the first semester before January 18, 2025; complete the program and end the school year before May 31, 2025.

- Recognition of primary school program completion and recognition of lower secondary school graduation before June 30, 2025.

- Complete enrollment for first-year classes before July 31, 2025.

- The high school graduation exam in 2025 is expected to take place on June 26 and June 27, 2025.

- Other national exams are organized as per regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

What are regulations on implementation of the program and education plan for the 2024-2025 academic year in Vietnam?

Based on Official Dispatch 3898/BGDDT-GDTH in 2024 on the program, the education plan for the 2024-2025 academic year in Vietnam:

- Develop the school's education plan proactively and flexibly to complete the school year program.

Departments of Education and Training direct educational institutions to organize the development of the school's education plan, teaching plans for subjects, educational activities, and lesson plans according to regulations;

- Arrange effective program implementation time ensuring scientific, educational, non-stressful for students;

- Flexible in organizing the implementation of teaching subjects, educational activities appropriate to the actual conditions of the locality, the school, and the student subjects, ensuring that by the end of the school year, students achieve the expected outcomes as prescribed by the program.

- Implement general education programs

Departments of Education and Training direct educational institutions to implement the primary education program according to the professional guidance documents on primary education issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, specifically:

- Ensure the ratio of 1 classroom/class, facilities, the number of students per class according to regulations in the Primary School Charter; have minimum teaching equipment as prescribed; ensure the ratio of 1.5 teachers/class and teacher structure to teach all subjects, educational activities, and organize teaching 2 sessions/day as prescribed.

- Implement mandatory subjects and educational activities, elective subjects according to the primary education program;

- Organize consolidation activities to help students complete learning contents, educational activities to meet students' needs, interests, and talents; activities to explore nature, society, culture, history, and traditions of the locality.

- Organize teaching 2 sessions/day, each day no more than 7 periods, each period 35 minutes; implement a teaching schedule with a minimum of 9 sessions/week with 32 periods/week;

- The educational plan ensures a reasonable distribution of educational contents, helping students fulfill learning tasks and achieve the expected outcomes of the program;

- Create conditions for students to study elective subjects and participate in educational activities to achieve comprehensive education goals in primary education;

- Timetables should be scientifically arranged, ensuring a reasonable ratio between teaching contents and educational activities, reasonably allocating time and timing in the day and week suitable to primary school students' psychological characteristics.

- For primary educational institutions that do not have sufficient conditions to organize teaching for 2 sessions/day, based on teaching the correct and sufficient content and time of compulsory subjects as prescribed by the program, primary educational institutions should proactively determine content, choose forms of organization, and allocate appropriate time for elective subjects when conditions permit, consolidation activities, and other educational activities.

- Develop a plan to organize semi-boarding with content and forms suitable to actual conditions, agreed upon by students, parents, and following the regulations and guidelines of the management agency;

- Semi-boarding activities are organized from after the morning session to before the start of the afternoon session, contributing to training students in essential life skills, capacities, necessary qualities, discipline, self-service, responsibility, sharing, and love;

- Semi-boarding activities should be flexible and may include activities such as organizing lunch, nap, play, entertainment, etc., for students; organize lunch and semi-boarding to ensure food safety and hygiene, and ensure nutrition and health for students.

- Organize activities for students outside of official learning hours based on their needs and interests from after official learning hours until the time parents pick them up;

- Based on students' needs and interests, activities can be organized in the form of club activities or using the school's facilities (library, playground, gymnasium...) to create conditions for students to play and entertain; organizing activities after official learning hours in the form of club activities needs to be approved by the competent authority.
