To solve this issue, we need to raise the awareness and responsibility of each student, utilize the spirit of self-discipline, environmental protection, and maintain a clean and beautiful school environment. Moreover, educational and propaganda activities should be organized to increase awareness for all members of the school. Firstly, we notice that littering on the streets exhibits numerous manifestations, but the most common one is littering on streets or public places carelessly. It is not uncommon to see students throwing an ice cream stick or candy wrapper at their feet without caring that a trash bin is nearby. After consuming a can of soda or a bottle of mineral water, a student might neatly place the waste on a nearby bench, even if the trash bin is very close. Some students, after finishing a piece of chewing gum, do not take it to the trash bin but roll it into a ball and stick it on the bench before walking away, only caring that their spot is clean, not paying attention to other places.

If littering occurs in parks, places considered to be clean and fresh, but now are flooded with trash, it also extends to bus stops, bus stations, etc., and now it infiltrates educational environments. Students lack the awareness to protect the clean and beautiful environment of the schools they attend. Trash is found in classrooms, schoolyards, and students nonchalantly litter on desk drawers, corners of classrooms, corridors, etc., seriously affecting the aesthetics and learning environment. Another cause is habitual, long-standing behaviors that are difficult to change, and it requires constant reminders for people not to litter indiscriminately. In classrooms, teachers and class leaders have to frequently remind students to keep the classroom clean and beautiful.

The current situation of widespread littering brings significant repercussions. First and foremost, indiscriminate littering adversely affects public health. Continuous littering, increasing in volume if not cleaned, will emit foul odors, polluting our air environment. In schools, a learning environment filled with trash hinders our ability to learn effectively.

Moreover, the “trash” in schools isn’t limited to waste from snacks; there’s “trash” in students' cultural behavior. Vulgar and expletive language usage is frequent and such “trash” must be eradicated urgently.

Littering in public is a headache for authorities, including schools. According to Clause 2, Article 5 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the assessment via scores for 9th-grade students in Vietnam is regulated as follows:

- Teachers shall use scores to assess training and learning results of students.

- Assessment conducted based on scores shall be used in regular assessment and periodic assessment via examination and assessment regarding implementation of training and learning tasks of students depending on subject’s characteristics.

What is the periodic assessment for 9th-grade students in Vietnam?

According to Clause 1, Article 7 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, periodic assessment (does not apply to learning topics) consists of mid-semester assessment and end term assessment and is implemented via: examination (on test paper or on computer), practice exercises, or learning projects.

- Time of examination (on test paper or on computer) of subjects (excluding learning topics) with up to 70 periods/school year is 45 minutes; time of examination (on test paper or on computer) of subjects (excluding learning topics with more than 70 periods/school year is from 60 minutes to 90 minutes or up to 120 minutes for specialized subjects.
