Grandmother's Pond

Grandmother's pond is located right in front of the house, a close friend to us children. It's not very large, only about half the size of a volleyball court, but it holds countless childhood joys.

The surface of the pond is as calm as a gigantic mirror, reflecting the azure sky and fluffy white clouds drifting by. Around the pond is a bamboo fence enclosing it, creating a private, peaceful space. The green bamboo leaves droop down to the water, creating shimmering, mystical shadows. In the early mornings, when the sun just rises, Grandmother's pond wears a bright golden coat. The sunlight shines down on the water, creating sparkling ripples. The tilapia swim playfully, chasing each other, painting a lively picture. Every afternoon, we kids would gather by the pond to fly kites. Kites in various colors flutter in the sky, creating a vibrant scene. On some days, we even held fish-catching contests, with a prize for whoever caught the most. During summer, Grandmother's pond becomes our natural swimming pool. We freely frolic and bathe in the cool water. The feeling of being immersed in cool water after a hot summer day is simply wonderful. In autumn, the yellow bamboo leaves fall on the water, creating a golden shiny carpet. The gentle breeze causes the water's surface to ripple, making a refreshing babbling sound. In winter, Grandmother’s pond becomes more tranquil. The water surface is cold, mist billows mysteriously. The trees by the pond shed all their leaves, leaving only bare, slender branches. Grandmother's pond is not only a playground for us but also a confidant.

Sitting by the pond in the afternoon, watching the calm water, I feel an unusual peace in my heart. Grandmother's pond is tied to my childhood, a beautiful memory that I will never forget.

Rural Stream

The rural stream in my hometown gently flows through the lush green rice fields. It is like a soft silk ribbon winding through a beautiful natural painting.

In the early morning, mist covers the stream, with the first rays of sunlight gradually breaking through the mystical veil. The scene seems to awaken from a long sleep. The chirping birds blend with the stream's babbling, creating a wonderful symphony. Along the stream banks are rows of cool green trees. The Bang and Kapok trees stand tall like guards. The ancient banyan tree with its roots sprawling into the water creates small caves for little fish to hide. In summer, we often invite each other to the stream to bathe. The feeling of being immersed in the cool water is simply wonderful. We compete to jump into the stream, creating tiny waves. In autumn, yellow leaves fall, covering the water surface. The stream dons a new, shiny yellow coat. The leaves float on the water, creating a truly romantic scene. In winter, the stream dwindles, and the water trickles. The small fish hide under rocks. Despite this, the stream still retains its unique beauty.

The rural stream in my hometown is not only our playground but also the lifeline for the entire village. The stream nourishes the rice fields and lush vegetable gardens. The stream is an essential part of the life of the villagers.

Garden Pond

The pond in my garden is small, only about half the size of a soccer field, but it is a whole magical world in my eyes. Every afternoon, I invite my friends to play by the pond.

The pond surface is calm like a giant mirror, reflecting the clouds leisurely floating in the sky. Surrounding the pond are clusters of light purple water lilies, round lotus leaves floating on the water. A soft breeze sways the leaves, stirring the whole water area. We often release paper boats on the pond. The tiny boats drift aimlessly along the water, sometimes getting caught in the moss. We would yell to retrieve them and release them again. Thus, the afternoons quickly passed. Once, I accidentally discovered a baby frog sitting on a lotus leaf. I gently approached, intending to catch it, but it quickly jumped into the water. I regretfully watched the frog, amazed by its agility. My garden pond is not only our playground but also a confidant. Whenever I'm sad, I would sit alone by the pond, watching the rippling waves. It feels as if an invisible hand is soothing the sorrows in my heart.

Now that I've grown up, I no longer have much time to play by the pond as before. But the image of the small pond in my garden remains etched in my mind. It is a beautiful childhood memory.
