How many days off does the Lunar New Year 2025 in Vietnam last?

The Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh has agreed on a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday 2025,5 days of Tet holiday and 4 weekly breaks, from the 26th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month (January 25 - February 2, 2025).

Earlier, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs had sent the plan to seek opinions from ministries and central authorities regarding the Lunar New Year holiday 2025 to submit to the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

According to a proposal by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, officials and public employees will have a continuous 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025.

Unlike previous years, in this proposed draft, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs only proposed one plan for the 5-day Lunar New Year holiday including 2 days before and 3 days after the Lunar New Year.

Thus, in the Lunar New Year 2025, employees and many other entities will officially have 9 days off.

What is the deadline for finishing the school year after the Lunar New Year holiday 2025 in Vietnam?

According to Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT of 2024 regarding the framework for the 2024 - 2025 academic year plan in Vietnam for preschool, general education, and continuing education.

The Ministry of Education and Training issues a framework for the 2024 - 2025 academic year plan applicable nationwide for preschool, general education, and continuing education as follows:

- Start classes at the earliest 1 week before the school opening day. Particularly for grade 1, start classes at the earliest 2 weeks before the school opening day.

- Organize the school opening on September 5, 2024.

- Conclude the first semester before January 18, 2025, and complete the program to conclude the school year before May 31, 2025.

- Recognize the completion of primary education and lower secondary graduation before June 30, 2025.

- Complete enrollment for beginning grades before July 31, 2025.

- The high school graduation exam in 2025 is expected to take place on June 26 and 27, 2025.

Thus, after 9-day Lunar New Year holiday 2025, the school year must be finished before May 31, 2025, as scheduled.

What are the rights of lower and upper secondary school students in Vietnam?

The rights of lower and upper secondary school students in Vietnam are specifically outlined in Article 35 of the lower secondary school, upper secondary school and multi-level school charter attached to Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT:

- Receive comprehensive education with fairness, be provided with time, facilities, hygiene and safety to learn in class and self-learn at home, be informed of their education and training, and be able to use learning, cultural and sport equipment of their schools as per the law.

- Receive respect, protection and fair and democratic treatment, complain to their schools and education authorities about decisions concerning themselves; transfer school with legitimate reason as per existing regulations; enter school before the compulsory starting age, skip a grade and study at an age higher than the compulsory attendance age according to regulations in Article 33 of Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT.

- Students eligible for social benefits, disadvantaged students and gifted students may receive sponsorship or other benefits as per the law.
