List of Approved Grade 7 Textbooks for the Academic Year 2024-2025 in Vietnam

Pursuant to Decision 441/QD-BGDDT in 2022, the Ministry of Education and Training has approved the list of textbooks for Grade 7 used in general educational institutions.

What are procedures for selecting textbooks in lower secondary schools in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT, the procedure for selecting textbooks in lower secondary schools is as follows:

Step 1: The council builds a plan to organize the selection of textbooks in the lower secondary school; assigns tasks to the members of the council.

Step 2: Organize the selection of textbooks at the specialized subject group

- Based on the council's plan and the criteria for selecting textbooks, the head of the specialized subject group builds a plan to organize the selection of textbooks for each subject structured within the specialized subject group, reports to the head before implementation;

- Organize for all subject teachers of the lower secondary school (including official teachers, contract teachers, seconded teachers, visiting lecturers, inter-school teachers) to participate in selecting textbooks for that subject;

- No later than 20 days before the first meeting of the specialized subject group, the head of the specialized subject group organizes for subject teachers to study the textbooks for the subject, write review notes, evaluate the textbooks according to the selection criteria;

- The head of the specialized subject group organizes a meeting with the subject teachers to discuss and vote to select one (1) textbook for the subject. In case there is only one textbook approved by the Minister of Education and Training, the specialized subject group selects the textbook without voting.

The textbook selected must be chosen by more than 50% of the subject teachers.

If no textbook is chosen by more than 50% of the subject teachers, the specialized subject group must discuss and vote again; the textbook selected is the one with the highest number of votes in the second vote.

In both voting rounds, if there are two (2) textbooks with the highest equal number of votes, the head of the specialized subject group decides to choose one of the textbooks with the highest votes.

The meetings of the specialized subject group are recorded in minutes, including all comments and evaluations of the subject teachers who participated in the selection, signed by the head of the specialized subject group and the person assigned to write the record;

- The head of the specialized subject group summarizes the results, prepares a list of textbooks selected by the specialized subject group, signed by the head and the person assigned to compile the list of textbooks.

Step 3: The council meets, discusses, and evaluates the organization of the textbook selection by the specialized subject groups; reviews the minutes of the specialized subject group meetings; the review notes, and textbook evaluations by teachers; compiles the textbook selection results from the specialized subject groups into a record (including comments, evaluations about the textbook selection organization by the specialized subject groups; the list of selected textbooks by the specialized subject groups), signed by the chairman and the secretary of the council.

Step 4: The council proposes to the head the list of textbooks selected by the specialized subject groups as per regulations.Step 5: The lower secondary school prepares the textbook selection dossier and sends it to the Department of Education and Training. The dossier includes:

- Decision on the establishment of the Council of the lower secondary school;

- Minutes of the Council meeting as prescribed;

- List of textbooks selected by the lower secondary school.

What are the tasks of the textbook selection council of the lower secondary school in Vietnam?

According to Clause 1, Article 6 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT, the tasks of the textbook selection council of the lower secondary school are as follows:

- Organizing the appraisal of the minutes of meetings of the subject groups; review and evaluation sheets of textbooks made by teachers; list of textbooks selected by the subject groups;

- Compiling and proposing to the head of the list of textbooks selected by the subject groups after they have been appraised and meet requirements according to the regulations.
