What is the perspective of building the Grade-9 History and Geography program in Vietnam?
Based on Section 2 of the Secondary School History and Geography Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the History and Geography program for secondary education (including History and Geography 9) adheres to the regulations in the overall program, while emphasizing the following perspectives:
(1). The program aims to develop in students a scientific mindset, perceiving the world as a unified whole in both spatial and temporal dimensions based on fundamental knowledge, learning tools, and research tools in history and geography; thereby developing both specific and general capabilities, especially the ability to apply knowledge and skills in practice and creativity.
(2). The program inherits and promotes the strengths of the current middle school History and Geography subjects and absorbs the experiences of developing subject curricula from advanced countries around the world. The contents ensure to equip students with fundamental, comprehensive, and scientific general knowledge; suitable to the psychological and cognitive characteristics of students, and considering the teaching conditions of Vietnamese schools.
(3). Historical education content is designed according to a chronological timeline, from prehistoric times through ancient, medieval, to modern and contemporary periods; interweaving world history, regional history, and Vietnamese history at each stage. The content of Geography education progresses from general geography to regional geography and Vietnamese geography. It emphasizes the selection of topics, connecting knowledge and skills to develop students' competencies, while valuing the scientific characteristics of history and geography.
(4). The program emphasizes the use of active teaching methods, focusing on the use of teaching aids, diversifying teaching forms, and evaluating educational outcomes to develop students' qualities and competencies.
(5). The program ensures continuity with the elementary History and Geography program and the high school History and Geography program; maintaining a consistent, cohesive connection between grades, educational levels, and other subjects and educational activities in the general education program.
(6). The program is open, allowing flexible implementation according to local conditions and students' needs (students in difficult areas, students with special support needs,...).
