Based on Article 9 of the master's level admission and training regulations issued with Circular 23/2021/TT-BGDDT regarding master's thesis evaluation:

Thesis Evaluation

  1. The thesis is organized for evaluation in the form of a defense before a council. The defense session is conducted publicly, except for topics requiring confidentiality as per State regulations.
  1. The thesis evaluation council must meet the following requirements:

a) The council consists of at least 05 members, including a chairperson, a secretary, 02 reviewers, and other members; among them, at least 01 reviewer must be outside the training institution;

b) The standards for council members must comply with the standards for thesis instructors as specified in Clause 4, Article 8 of these Regulations; the chairperson must be a full-time lecturer or researcher at the training institution;

c) The instructor may participate in the council as a member but is not allowed to grade; a student's parent, spouse, child, or sibling may not participate in the council.

  1. Conditions for a student to defend the thesis:

a) Completed all modules of the training program;

b) Submitted the thesis and received the instructor's approval for defense;

c) Completed other requirements as stipulated by the training institution.

Members of the master's thesis evaluation council must meet the following conditions:

What are conditions for a master's project report in Vietnam?

Based on Article 11 of the master's level admission and training regulations issued with Circular 23/2021/TT-BGDDT regarding the guidance, evaluation, and assessment of the graduation module for application-oriented programs:

Guidance, evaluation, and assessment of the graduation module for application-oriented programs

  1. Students in application-oriented programs must complete a graduation module of 6 to 9 credits in the form of a project, design, or plan (herein referred to as a project). The student executes the project over a minimum period of 03 months.
  1. The project is evaluated through a defense before a council. The defense session is conducted publicly, except for topics requiring confidentiality as per State regulations.
  1. The project report is a document articulating the development process, implementation, and results of the project, meeting the following requirements:

a) Propose and test a new model or solution to effectively address real-world challenges; demonstrate the student's ability to apply science, technology, and problem-solving skills;

b) Align with cultural, ethical, and traditional Vietnamese values;

c) Comply with the training institution's regulations on academic integrity and current legal provisions on intellectual property.

Thus, a master's project report must meet the following conditions:

- Propose and test a new model or solution to effectively address real-world challenges; demonstrate the student's ability to apply science, technology, and problem-solving skills;

- Align with cultural, ethical, and traditional Vietnamese values;

- Comply with the training institution's regulations on academic integrity and current legal provisions on intellectual property.

Are master's students in Vietnam allowed to take temporary leave when ill?

Based on Article 13 of the master's level admission and training regulations issued with Circular 23/2021/TT-BGDDT regarding temporary leave and cessation of study:

Temporary Leave, Cessation of Study

  1. Students are allowed to take temporary leave and retain their academic results in the following cases:

a) Called upon for national armed forces duty;

b) Deployed by competent authorities to represent the nation in international competitions, tournaments, or to perform other national or departmental duties;

c) Due to illness, maternity, or accidents requiring long-term treatment, with certification from a competent medical facility as regulated by the Ministry of Health;

d) For other personal reasons, provided that they have completed at least one semester at the training institution and are not subject to considerations for expulsion or disciplinary review.

Thus, master's students are permitted to take temporary leave due to illness but must have certification from a competent medical facility as regulated by the Ministry of Health.
