How many days off are students in Vietnam entitled to during the Lunar New Year 2025?

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam has just sent a proposal to gather opinions from ministries and central authorities on the plan for the Lunar New Year 2025 holiday to submit to the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

According to the proposal by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vetnam, Vietnamese officials and public employees may have a 9 continuous days off for the Lunar New Year 2025.

Unlike previous years, in this draft submission, the Ministry only proposes 01 holiday plan, which includes a 5-day statutory holiday (2 days off before Tet, and 3 days off after Tet).

The official Tet holiday schedule is from Monday, January 27, 2025, which corresponds to the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month of 2024, continuing through the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd days of Tet, ending on Friday, January 31, 2025.

However, preceding the 5 official holidays are 2 weekend days, Saturday and Sunday, January 25-26, 2025, corresponding to the 26th and 27th days of the twelfth lunar month.

Following the official holidays are weekends, Saturday and Sunday, February 1-2, 2025.

Therefore, in reality, the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday will start from Saturday, January 25, 2025, until the end of Sunday, February 2, 2025 in the Gregorian calendar (which is the end of the 5th day of the first lunar month of 2025).

With the Tet holiday coinciding with the full 5 working days of the week, officials and public employees will be entitled to 9 continuous days off (including 5 Lunar New Year holidays and 4 weekend days).

Currently, students typically have breaks according to the teachers' schedule.

Students are entitled to 9 continuous days off during the Lunar New Year 2025 as teachers.

Additionally, according to the schedule for preschool, general education, and continuing education in the 2024 - 2025 academic year within the Ho Chi Minh City issued along with Decision 3089/QD-UBND 2024:

- Holidays defined by the Labor Code 2019 that coincide with weekends are compensated on the next working day. School principals independently formulate education plans suitable for their units in compliance with regulations.

- The expected date for the high school graduation exam in 2025 is June 26 and 27, 2025.

- The 2025 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to start from January 25, 2025 (the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month) until the end of February 2, 2025 (the 5th day of the first lunar month).

The 2025 Lunar New Year holiday for students in Ho Chi Minh City might begin from the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month (January 25, 2025) until the end of the 5th day of the first lunar month (February 2, 2025).

What are the rights of lower and upper secondary school students in Vietnam?

The rights of lower and upper secondary school students in Vietnam are specifically defined in Article 35 of the Charter of Lower Secondary Schools, Upper Secondary Schools, and Multi-Level Schools issued along with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT:

- Receive comprehensive education with fairness, be provided with time, facilities, hygiene and safety to learn in class and self-learn at home, be informed of their education and training, and be able to use learning, cultural and sport equipment of their schools as per the law.

- Receive respect, protection and fair and democratic treatment, complain to their schools and education authorities about decisions concerning themselves; transfer school with legitimate reason as per existing regulations; enter school before the compulsory starting age, skip a grade and study at an age higher than the compulsory attendance age according to regulations in Article 33 of Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT.

- Participate in activities for development of their gifts in academic subjects, sports and art organized by their schools if able to.

- Students eligible for social benefits, disadvantaged students and gifted students may receive sponsorship or other benefits as per the law.

- Transfer school if eligible according to regulations following school transfer procedures stipulated by the Minister of Education and Training.

- Enjoy other rights as per the law.
