Under Section 1 of the General Education Program on Experiential Activities and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

CHARACTERISTICS OF EXPERIENTIAL ACTIVITIES AND CAREER-ORIENTED AND EXPERIENTIAL ACTIVITIES

Experiential Activities (primary level) and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities (middle and high school levels) are mandatory educational activities implemented from Grade 1 to Grade 12.

Experiential Activities and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities are educational activities directed, designed, and guided by educators, creating opportunities for students to engage with reality, experience positive emotions, utilize existing knowledge, and aggregate skills from various subjects to complete assigned tasks or solve real-life problems in school, family, and society suited to their age; through this, transforming past experiences into new knowledge, understanding, and skills, contributing to creativity potential and adaptability to future life, environment, and careers.

Experiential Activities and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities contribute to forming, developing fundamental qualities, common competencies, and specific competencies for students; the content is constructed based on individual relationships with self, society, nature, and occupation.

The content of Experiential Activities and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities is divided into two phases: the basic education phase and the vocational orientation education phase.

- Basic Education Phase:

In the primary level, Experiential Activities focus on self-discovery activities, self-discipline activities, relationship development activities with friends, teachers, and family members. Social activities and exploration of familiar occupations are also organized with appropriate content and form for the age.

In the lower secondary level, the content of Career-oriented and Experiential Activities focuses more on social activities, activities towards nature, and career-oriented activities; at the same time, activities focusing on self continue to develop student qualities and competencies.

- Vocational Orientation Education Phase:

Besides activities toward the individual, society, and nature, the content of Career-oriented and Experiential Activities at the upper secondary level focuses more on career education activities to develop career orientation abilities. Through career-oriented activities, students assess and self-assess their abilities, strengths, and interests related to careers, forming a basis to choose a suitable career path and develop qualities and competencies to adapt to future careers.

Thus, the primary level covers experiential activities.

What are the three perspectives for developing the experiential activity program at the primary level in Vietnam?

Under Section 2 of the General Education Program on Experiential Activities and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

The Experiential and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities Program emphasizes the viewpoints, objectives, required achievements, educational plans, educational content, educational methods, education outcome assessment, and conditions for implementation and development of the general education program mentioned in the General Program while emphasizing the following perspectives:

[1] The program is built based on action theory, personality theory, experiential learning theory, and general educational theory; the advantages of the current extracurricular activities program and career education activities; international experience in developing Experiential and Career-oriented and Experiential Activities Program; cultural identity of regions, traditional Vietnamese culture, and common cultural values of the era.

[2] The program ensures coherence, consistency, and continuous development across grades and levels. It is designed concentrically and linearly, from Grade 1 to Grade 12, with unified content activities: Activities towards self, towards society, towards nature, and career-oriented activities.

[3] The program ensures openness and flexibility. Educational institutions and teachers are encouraged to choose content, methods, space, and time for activities that suit their circumstances and conditions under the principle of ensuring educational objectives and achieving competency and quality requirements for each class and educational level.
