Under Article 38 of the Primary School Charter issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the forms of commendation for 4th-grade students in Vietnam are specified as follows:

Commendation and Discipline

1. Commendation and discipline for students shall comply with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

2. Students with outstanding achievements, exemplary students completing tasks well in academics, training, and emulation movements, with many contributions to the collective, selected by classmates, or with other extraordinary results, will be commended by teachers, schools, and educational management levels in forms such as giving commendation before the class or school, awarding certificates of merit or letters of commendation.

3. Students with shortcomings in academics, training, and emulation movements may, depending on the severity of the violation, face disciplinary measures such as giving reminders and providing direct support to help students improve; notifying parents to cooperate in helping students overcome shortcomings. Teachers are not allowed to criticize students before the class, at school, or a general meeting with parents.

Currently, 4th-grade students in Vietnam may be commended by teachers, schools, and educational administrative levels in forms such as giving commendation before the class or school, awarding certificates of merit or letters of commendation when they achieve outstanding results, are exemplary students completing tasks well in academics, training, and emulation movements, with many contributions to the collective, selected by classmates, or with other extraordinary results.

What are the regulations on regular assessment for 4th-grade students in Vietnam?

According to Article 6 of the Assessment of Primary School Students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the regular assessment for 4th-grade students is regulated as follows:

- Regular assessment for academic contents of subjects and academic activities.

+ Teachers flexibly and appropriately employ assessment methods, primarily by words to inform students about the right, the wrong and remedial measures; specify feedback in notebooks or academic products of students if necessary and provide timely assistance.

+ Students provide feedback on their work and their peers’ work during execution of academic tasks for the betterment.

+) Students’ parents discuss student feedback and assessment with teachers via appropriate means and cooperate with teachers in motivating and assisting students in studying and training processes. 

- Regular assessment for formation and development of traits and capacities

+ Teachers flexibly and appropriately employ assessment methods; based on display of awareness, behavior and attitude of students; compare with level of completion to be achieved of each primary trait and capacity according to formal primary education programs in order to provide timely feedback and assistance.

+ Students may provide feedback on themselves and their peers regarding display of each primary trait and capacity for self improvement.

+ Students’ parents discuss, cooperate with teachers and assist students in training and developing primary traits and capacities.
