According to the Appendix issued in conjunction with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT (Some contents in this file are amended by Articles 1 and 2 of Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT) on the General Education Program issued by the Minister of Education and Training, the general education program is divided into two phases: the basic education phase (from grade 1 to grade 9) and the career-oriented education phase (from grade 10 to grade 12).

The system of subjects and educational activities of the general education program includes compulsory subjects and educational activities, career-oriented elective subjects (referred to as elective subjects), and optional subjects.

The actual learning time in a school year is equivalent to 35 weeks. Educational institutions can organize teaching either 1 session/day or 2 sessions/day. Educational institutions organizing either 1 session/day or 2 sessions/day must uniformly implement the compulsory educational content applicable to all educational institutions nationwide.

Primary schools use textbooks approved by the Minister of Education and Training and the provincial People's Committee determines the selection and use of textbooks for teaching and learning processes within the school in their area;

Teachers and students use textbooks in teaching and learning activities to achieve the objectives, educational content, and required outcomes concerning the qualities and capacities of students as stipulated in the primary education curriculum;
