How to distinguish full-time and part-time modes of study in Vietnamese education?
According to Article 4 of the Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT:
[1] Concepts according to legal regulations
According to the undergraduate education regulations in Vietnam, stipulated in Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, full-time and part-time modes of study have different goals and forms to meet the diverse learning needs of learners.
1. Full-time mode of study:
This is a form of education where students study full-time at university institutions. Full-time students are required to participate fully in the teaching activities at school and have a stable study schedule. This system aims to provide in-depth knowledge and professional skills within a focused learning environment, suitable for young students who have just completed upper secondary education.
2. Part-time mode of study:
The target audience of this system mainly comprises individuals who are already working but wish to complete their university education or enhance their qualifications for work purposes. This training program is designed for those working while studying, allowing more flexible study times and locations, suitable for those who have main jobs but still wish to pursue further education.
[2] Teaching locations
According to Article 4 of the Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, there are some differences in teaching locations between the two modes of study:
- Full-time mode of study: Teaching activities are conducted at the educational institution, except for practice, internships, real-world experiences, and online teaching which may be conducted outside the educational institution;
-Part-time mode of study: Teaching activities shall take place in training institutions or institutions involved in joint training according to regulations on joint training in Article 5 of this Regulation; and practicals, internships, practical experiences and online teaching may be carried out outside of training institutions and institutions involved in joint training;
[3] Teaching time
Article 4 of the Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT also clearly stipulates the time for conducting teaching activities for each system:
- Full-time mode of study: Teaching activities shall take place between 6 AM and 8 PM from Monday to Saturday; activities specific to training programs shall be organized according to the regulations of training institutions.
-Part-time mode of study: Teaching time may be scheduled flexibly.
