The Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2024 is an annual event organized to spread the value of reading and promote the culture of reading among students and all social classes. This event not only provides an opportunity for participants to share their love for books but also helps build new, creative ideas for the development of the reading movement.

Contestants can refer to the following sample short stories for spreading the love for books, demonstrating responsibility to family and society, and evoking national pride for the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2024:

Sample No. 1:

Once upon a time, there was a small village nestled in a lush green valley. This place was famous for its amiable people who loved nature and were passionate about reading. The village had a magical library that housed countless stories from around the world.

Tich Lan, a little girl orphaned from a young age, lived with her grandmother in a small house on the edge of the village. She had a special love for books. Every day after school, Tich Lan would go to the library and immerse herself in the vast world of knowledge. Stories of heroes, fascinating scientific discoveries, and mysterious distant lands opened up a new world for Tich Lan.

Since learning to read, Tich Lan not only gained knowledge but also developed creative thinking, compassion, and a sense of responsibility. She always helped those around her, from small acts like picking up litter, cleaning the streets to larger activities like participating in volunteer work. Tich Lan was also very interested in national history and culture. She spent a lot of time reading books about national heroes and the beautiful traditions of her homeland.

The love for reading helped Tich Lan become a well-behaved, filial child who loved everyone and took pride in her nation. As she grew up, Tich Lan became a teacher, inspiring the younger generation with a love for reading and patriotism.

The story of Tich Lan and the magical library spread throughout the village, igniting a passion for reading in every resident. The small village became a community that valued learning, where everyone cherished knowledge and upheld a sense of responsibility to themselves, their family, and society.

Books are a vast treasure of knowledge, preserving the cultural essence of humanity. Books record history, science, literature, art, etc., helping people understand the world around them and discover themselves. Books are teachers guiding people on their path to knowledge, aiding in personal growth and character development.

Reading is a good habit to be cultivated from a young age. Reading helps broaden one's perspective, enrich knowledge, develop creative thinking, and nurture the soul. Reading provides entertainment and relaxation after stressful hours of study and work.

Books are valuable companions on each person's journey of knowledge. Love books and make reading a daily habit to enrich and add meaning to life.

Sample No. 2:

Books are one of the miraculous achievements of human civilization. From books written on hundreds of sheepskin pages, carved on thousands of bamboo slips, and printed with wooden blocks to modern printed books today, we can easily see human progress over thousands of years of history. The author of "Fast Reading Method" (Comprehensive Cultural History 1987-1990) states: "Up to now, in its 500-year history, the global printing industry has published more than 300 million book titles, producing 600 million printed pages annually." Those numbers truly astonish us!

Books are the spiritual products of talented individuals. Great writers, historians, and thinkers create magnificent works. The Bible, the Quran, the Buddhist scriptures, the Ramayana epic, and the works of Confucius, Mencius, Laozi, etc., have continued to captivate millions of people on earth over several millennia. Works like "Records of the Grand Historian" by Sima Qian, "War and Peace," episodic novels like "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," "Annals of the Eastern Zhou," etc., and projects by Nobel Prize-winning cultural and scientific authors continue to illuminate human civilization. Thousands of Han-Nom books left by our ancestors are vivid testimonies to the ancient, brilliant culture of Dai Viet. Material things may decay over time, but the names and accomplishments of Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Du, Newton, Einstein, etc., will remain immortal.

Rivers run deep and wide from their sources. So do books. Books are the distillation of human intellect, an immense and vast source of knowledge. Books enhance knowledge, broaden horizons for readers, and teach us to love, to detest, to dream,... There are also books for entertainment, nurturing imagination, and bringing joy. Books are resources for study and self-cultivation. Hence, "one must know to love and cherish books" because "they are the source of knowledge." Long ago, it was said: "Every book is a pot of gold." Le Quy Don, an 18th-century scholar of our country, was a highly intelligent person who spent his life "with eyes never leaving books, resting his head on books." Such dedication to learning leads to a deep love for books!

In life, everyone desires wealth and prestige. Everyone wants to learn broadly and know much. Poverty leads to disdain from others. Ignorance brings even more contempt from society. Why during the feudal society of Vietnam did scholars rank first among social classes: "Scholar, farmer, craftsman, merchant"? Talent is the national essence. Living in the information age, we clearly see that knowledge, intellect, and talent are invaluable. We resonate with Gorky's view: "Only knowledge is the path to life." One cannot live in hunger, darkness, and ignorance. As "a person without knowledge understands little and can only be a servant for others" (Mencius). To know one or two foreign languages as a tool, to possess a modern, advanced scientific level, one must undergo specialized training, diligently study, and know how to self-learn, and self-read. As always: "The roots of education are bitter; the fruits of education are sweet."

"Only knowledge is the path to life." To live in creative labor. To live to master equipment and machinery. To live in the light of the cultural and technical civilization. The path to life that Gorky refers to is a path of creativity, with a luxurious material life, a rich, beautiful spiritual life to master oneself, society, and nature.

Almost 700 years ago, Nguyen Trai wrote in the "National Language Verses Collection":

"To become skilled, become a master by learning,

To enjoy abundance by diligent work."

(Mirror Alert Verse - Poem 46)

("Nên thợ, nên thầy vì có học,

No ăn, no mặc bởi hay làm".

(Bảo kính cảnh giởi - bài 46))

Loving books does not mean being a bookworm. Reading books should not lead to enslavement by them, rather one should earnestly pursue truth while being conscious of: "Learn extensively, ask thoroughly, think carefully, distinguish clearly, execute wholeheartedly" (Doctrine of the Mean).

A book lover is someone who values knowledge, is very studious, always striving to become a scholar (an intellectual) in society.

On the path of integration, industrialization, and modernization of the country, Vietnamese youth do not only learn in school, from teachers, from friends, and through real-life experiences but must also read books, scientific books, technical books, foreign language books, literary books,... know how to self-learn to arm themselves with modern knowledge, contribute talent effectively to building a prosperous country.

Strive for the objectives of each student having a bookshelf, and each family having a book cabinet, just as Uc Trai said: "Having musical instruments and books in the house makes the children happy." Reading must become a creative joy. Our youth, everyone should learn from books, and spend an hour or two every day reading.
