Under Section 3 of the General Educational Program for Literature issued in Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the specific objectives of the Vietnamese Language curricula at the primary education level are as follows:
- To help students form and develop key qualities with specific manifestations: love nature, family, and homeland; have awareness of origins; appreciate beauty, and goodness, and have healthy emotions; have a passion for learning, enjoy labor; be honest, and straightforward in studies and life; have a sense of responsibility towards themselves, family, society, and the surrounding environment.
- To help students initially form general competencies, and develop language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening at a basic level: reading correctly and fluently; understanding the main content and information of texts; relating, and comparing outside texts; writing correct spelling and grammar; composing sentences, paragraphs, short essays (mainly narrative and descriptive essays); expressing ideas clearly; comprehending others' opinions; developing literary competence requires distinguishing between poetry and stories, knowing how to read poetry and stories; recognizing the beauty of artistic language; having imagination, understanding, and being emotionally moved by human and worldly beauty and goodness as expressed in literary texts.
When are primary school students in Vietnam recognized as completing the primary education program?
According to Clause 2, Article 11 of the Regulations on assessment of primary school students issued in Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the regulation on consideration for completion of primary education program is as follows:
Consideration for completion of class programs or primary education programs
1. Consideration for completion of class programs:
a) Students receiving verification for completion of class programs are students who receive academic assessment results of: Excellent completion, Good completion, Completion.
b) For students who have not received verification for completion of class programs, teachers prepare plans, guidance and assistance; such students shall also receive additional consideration for completion of class programs.
c) For students who remain ineligible for completing class program despite receiving guidance and assistance, depending on level of incompletion of subjects, academic activities, level of formation and development of traits and capacities, teachers prepare list and report to principals in order to organize inspection, assessment and consideration and decide whether the student move on to the next grade or not.
2. Consideration for completion of primary education programs:
Students completing the 5th grade shall be verified and recorded in their study records as “Hoàn thành chương trình tiểu học” (Completed primary education program).
