What are the general objectives of Mathematics in the Literacy Eradication Program in Vietnam?

Under Section 1 Part 2 of the Literacy Eradication Program issued with Circular 33/2021/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of Mathematics in the Literacy Eradication Program in Vietnam are as follows:

(1) General Objectives

The Mathematics subject aims to help learners achieve the following main objectives:

- Form and develop mathematical competence, including core components: the ability to think and reason in mathematics; the ability to model in mathematics; the ability to solve mathematical problems; the ability to communicate in mathematics; and the ability to use tools and means to learn mathematics.

- Contribute to the formation and development of essential traits in learners: patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility; general abilities: autonomy and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving and creativity.

- Have basic and essential general mathematical knowledge and skills; develop the ability to solve problems with interdisciplinary integration between Mathematics and other subjects such as Natural and Social Sciences, History - Geography, Informatics, Technology, etc.; create opportunities for learners to experience and apply mathematics in practice.

- Have a relatively general understanding of the usefulness of mathematics concerning each related profession to have the minimum ability to explore mathematical problems throughout life.

(2) Specific objectives

- Contribute to forming and developing mathematical competence with the requirements to achieve: perform simple thinking operations; ask and answer questions when reasoning, solving simple problems; select arithmetic operations and formulas to present, express (verbally or in writing) the content, ideas of problem-solving methods; use mathematical language combined with ordinary language and physical gestures to express mathematical content in simple situations; use simple Mathematics learning tools and means to perform simple Mathematics learning tasks.

- Have basic and essential initial knowledge and mathematical skills about:

+ Numbers and calculations: natural numbers, fractions, decimals, and operations on these sets of numbers.

+ Geometry and Measurement: observe, recognize, describe shapes and features (at a visual level) of some flat and solid shapes in practice; create some simple geometric models; calculate some geometric quantities; develop spatial imagination; solve some simple practical problems related to Geometry and Measurement (with common measuring quantities).

+ Statistics and Probability: some simple statistical and probabilistic elements; solve some simple practical problems related to some statistical and probabilistic elements.

- Together with other subjects and educational activities, contribute to supporting learners to have additional understandings of certain professions in society.

Initially, see the usefulness of mathematics in daily work; create opportunities for learners to test their practical activities in life with pure mathematical knowledge; establish a connection between mathematical ideas, between Mathematics and practice, between Mathematics and other subjects and educational activities.

What are the core traits and general competencies in the Mathematics curriculum of the Literacy Eradication Program in Vietnam?

Under Section 2 Part 2 of the Literacy Eradication Program issued with Circular 33/2021/TT-BGDDT on the core traits and general competencies in the Mathematics curriculum of the Literacy Eradication Program in Vietnam:

The Mathematics subject contributes to forming and developing core traits and general competencies in learners according to levels appropriate to the subject in the Literacy Eradication Program in Section 2 of the first Part.
