What learning outcomes are required for students after completing the English curriculum at the upper secondary level in Vietnam?
According to Section 4 of the General Education Program for English issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the learning outcomes required for students after completing the English curriculum at the upper secondary level are as follows:
(1) Requirements for general qualities and competencies:
The General Education Program for English contributes to forming and developing the essential qualities (patriotism, kindness, diligence, honesty, responsibility) and general competencies (self-control and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving and creativity).
(2) Requirements for specific competencies at the upper secondary level:
- After completing the English subject at the upper secondary level, students can achieve English proficiency Level 3 of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework used in Vietnam.
+ Specifically: "Able to understand the main ideas of a standard, clear discourse or text on familiar topics in work, school, leisure, etc. Can handle most situations in areas where the language is used.
+ Can write simple paragraphs related to familiar or personally interesting topics.
+ Can describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, ambitions, and can briefly present reasons, explanations of opinions, and plans."
(3) Through the English subject, students gain a broader understanding of the countries, people, and cultures of English-speaking countries and other nations worldwide:
- Understand and respect the diversity of cultures while initially reflecting the values of Vietnamese culture in English;
