How many weeks are there in the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam?
Based on Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024:
Principles for Developing the Academic Year Plan of Localities
1. The academic year plan of localities must ensure 35 weeks of actual study (the first semester has 18 weeks, and the second semester has 17 weeks).
2. The academic year plan must be suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.
3. Public holidays and New Year holidays are carried out according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.
4. Teachers' annual leave is taken during the summer vacation or may be interspersed at other times of the year to suit specific characteristics and the academic year plan of the locality.
5. The academic year plan must ensure uniformity for all educational levels in one locality, especially in composite schools with multiple educational levels.
Thus, for the school year 2024-2025, the Ministry of Education and Training has stipulated that the first semester has 18 weeks and the second semester has 17 weeks.
The duration of study for the two semesters differs, and the total number of actual study weeks in the academic year 2024-2025 ensures 35 weeks.
What is the study time of the 2024-2025 school year for students of all levels in Vietnam?
Based on Section 4 of the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the educational plan for the 2024-2025 school year for students at all levels is as follows:
The general education program is divided into two phases:
The basic education phase (from grade 1 to grade 9) and the career-oriented education phase (from grade 10 to grade 12).
The system of subjects and educational activities in the general education program includes compulsory subjects and educational activities, career-oriented elective subjects (referred to as elective subjects), and optional subjects.
The actual study time in one academic year is equivalent to 35 weeks. Educational institutions may organize teaching in either one session/day or two sessions/day.
An educational institution that organizes teaching in one session/day and two sessions/day must implement mandatory educational content uniformly applicable to all educational institutions nationwide.
(1). Basic Education Phase
- Primary Level
Teaching is organized in two sessions/day, with no more than 7 periods per day; each period lasts 35 minutes. Educational institutions that do not have the conditions to organize two sessions/day will implement the educational plan according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Lower Secondary Level
Classes are organized for one session/day, with no more than 5 periods per session; each period lasts 45 minutes. Lower secondary schools that meet the requirements are encouraged to implement two sessions/day following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
(2). Career-Oriented Education Phase (Upper Secondary Level)
Classes are organized for one session/day, with no more than 5 periods per session; each period lasts 45 minutes. Upper secondary schools that meet the requirements are encouraged to implement two sessions/day following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
