How many students at maximum does a class in upper secondary schools in Vietnam have?
According to Article 16 of the Charter of Lower Secondary Schools, Upper Secondary Schools, and Multi-level Schools issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the organization of classes in upper secondary schools is regulated as follows:
- Students shall be divided into classes. Each class shall have a class monitor and deputy class monitors who are self-nominated or introduced by the homeroom teacher and elected by the students of the class at the beginning of each academic year or after each semester. Each class shall be divided into different student teams; and each team shall have a team leader and deputy team leader who are self-nominated or introduced by the homeroom teacher and elected by the team members at the beginning of each academic year or after each semester.
- Activities in classes shall be carried out in a democratic, autonomous and cooperative manner. Each student shall proactively contribute to development of the operational plans of their team and their class with teacher’s assistance.
- Chairpersons of provincial People’s Committees shall stipulate number of students in each class with the aim of reducing number of students in one class; ensure that each class at the lower secondary or upper secondary level has a maximum of 45 students.
- Number of students in each class of a special school is provided for in organizational and operational regulations for special schools.
Thus, according to the regulations, a class in upper secondary schools in Vietnam will have no more than 45 students.
What are the regulations on assessment of 11th-grade students in Vietnam?
Under Article 9 Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the assessment of learning results for each semester and the entire school year for 10th-grade and 11th-grade students is as follows:
For subjects assessed via both feedback and scores, DTBmhk is used to assess learning results of a student in each semester while DTBmcn is used to assess learning results of a student in the entire school year. Learning results of a student in each semester and in the entire school year shall be assessed by one of 4 categories: Excellent, Good, Qualified, Unqualified.
1) Excellent:
- All subjects assessed with feedback are placed in Qualified category.
- All subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 6.5 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 6 subjects among which have minimum scores of 8.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
2) Good:
- All subjects assessed with feedback are placed in Qualified category.
- All subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 5.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 6 subjects among which have minimum scores of 6.5 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
3) Qualified:
- Have no more than 1 subject assessed via feedback placed in Unqualified category.
- At least 6 subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 5.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 0 subjects have scores lower than 3.4 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
4) Unqualified: Remaining cases.
Note: If learning assessment results of a semester and/or a school year is lowered by at least 2 categories from categories Excellent and Good due to assessment results of a single subject, the learning assessment results of the semester and/or school year shall be raised up to the adjacent category.
Additionally, the assessment of training results of upper secondary school students in 2024 is as follows:
[1] Conduct assessment of training results of 10th-grade and 11th-grade students according to clause 2, Article 8 of the Charter issued with Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT:
- Excellent: a student is placed in Excellent category in the 2nd semester and in Good category or higher in the 1st semester.
- Good: a student is placed in Good category in the 2nd semester and Qualified category or higher in the 1st semester; or Qualified category in the 2nd semester and Good category in the 1st semester; or Good category in the 2nd semester and Qualified category or Unqualified category in the 1st semester.
- Qualified: a student is placed in Qualified category in the 2nd semester and Good, Qualified, or Unqualified category in the 1st category; or Good category in the 2nd semester and Unqualified in the 1st semester.
- Unqualified: other cases.
[2] Conduct assessment of training results of 12th-grade students according to Article 4 of the Charter issued with Circular 58/2011/TT-BGDDT:
1. Good grade:
- Strictly observing the rules of the school; strictly observing the laws and regulations on order and social safety, traffic safety; actively involving in fighting against the negative action, prevention and combat of crime, social evils;
- Always respecting teachers, and adults; love and help young children, having sense to build the collective, uniting, being trusted by friends;
- Positively training morality, having a healthy, simple, unpretentious lifestyle; helping, caring for families;
- Completing fully the task of learning, having sense of striving, honesty in life, in study;
- Actively doing exercise, keeping hygiene and protecting environment;
- Fully participating in educational activities, activities organized by the schools; actively participating in the activities of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers, Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh Communist;
- Having attitudes and appropriate behavior in training ethic, lifestyle according to contents of the citizen education subject.
2. Rather good grade:
Implementing the provisions in clause 1 of this Article but having not reached the level of Good; incomplete but timely taking remedy after the teachers and friends comment.
3. Medium grade:
There are some shortcomings in the implementation of the provisions in clause 1 of this Article but their levels are not serious; after being prompted, educated, they are absorbed, overcome but their progress is slow.
4. Weak grade:
Not being obtained standard of medium grade or having one of the following defects:
- Having mistakes of the serious nature or repeated in the implementation of the provisions in clause 1 of this Article, be educated, but not taking remedy;
- Having impoliteness, hurting dignity, honor, or hurting the body of teachers, school staffs; hurting the honor and dignity of friend or others;
- Having fraud in the study, examination, contest;
- Fighting, disturbing order and security in schools or society; violating traffic safety; causing damage to public property or property of others.
