According to Clause 1, Article 1 of Decree 87/2022/ND-CP, the Vietnam News Agency is the official state-run news agency of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a major multimedia media agency, performing the function of posting and broadcasting information and official documents of Vietnamese Communist Party and the State; providing information at the request of Vietnamese Communist Party and the State; collecting and disseminating information to serve mass media agencies, the public and other domestic and foreign entities.
The Vietnam News Agency is the international trade name in English and is abbreviated to “TTXVN” in Vietnamese and “VNA” in English.
The VNA is under the state management of the Ministry of Information and Communications in terms of the press and publication.
The organizational structure of Vietnam News Agency according to Article 3 of Decree 87/2022/ND-CP is as follows:

- Organisation and Personnel Department.
- Planning and Finance Department.

The units prescribed in Clauses 1 through 4 of Article 3 of Decree 87/2022/ND-CP are assisting organizations of the General Director; the units prescribed in Clauses 5 through 24 of Article 3 of Decree 87/2022/ND-CP are information units; the units prescribed in Clause 25 through 28 of Article 3 of Decree 87/2022/ND-CP is information service providers.
The Administrative Affairs Office has 06 divisions, the Planning and Finance Department has 04 divisions.
Regulations on direction of Vietnam News Agency according to Article 4 of Decree 87/2022/ND-CP are as follows:
- The VNA has a General Manager and no more than 04 Deputy General Managers.
- The General Manager and Deputy General Managers of the VNA are appointed or dismissed by the Prime Minister according to regulations of law.
- General Manager shall be responsible before the Government, the Prime Minister and before the law for the entire operations of the VNA. The Deputy General Managers shall assist the General Manager and be responsible before the General Manager and the law for assigned tasks.
- The General Manager shall appoint, dismiss heads and deputy entities of such heads and formulate functions, tasks, powers, organizational structures and work relations of affiliated units.
