The Vietnam Fatherland Front is a political coalition organization, a voluntary union of political organizations, socio-political organizations, social organizations, and prominent individuals from various classes, social strata, ethnic groups, religions, and Vietnamese residing abroad.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front is a part of the political system of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam led by the Communist Party of Vietnam; it is the political foundation of the people's government; the place where the will and aspirations are expressed, rallying the great unity bloc of the people, promoting people's mastery rights; the place for consultation, coordination, and action unification of its members.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front has the task of gathering, building, and promoting the strength of the great national unity; implementing democracy, strengthening social consensus; representing and protecting the legal and legitimate rights and interests of the people; supervising and providing social feedback; participating in building the Communist Party, the State, and conducting people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to national construction and defense.
The emblem of the Vietnam Fatherland Front is circular, with the upper half depicting a five-pointed yellow star on a red background and a white lotus below. The outer gold arc represents two rising branches of rice supporting the words "Vietnam Fatherland Front" on a red flag background. The bottom part symbolizes a red wheel with the text "Vietnam."
Every year, November 18 is the traditional day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Great National Unity Festival.
- The Vietnam Fatherland Front is organized and operates within the framework of the Constitution, laws, and the Charter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
- The Vietnam Fatherland Front is organized and operates on the principles of voluntariness, democratic consultation, coordination, and unification of actions. When coordinating and unifying actions, the member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front adhere to the Charter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front while maintaining their organizational independence.
- The Communist Party of Vietnam is both a member organization and the leader of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
- The Vietnam Fatherland Front is organized by administrative level:
+ At the central level, there are the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front;
+ At the local level, there are the Provincial Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at provinces and centrally affiliated cities (commonly referred to as provincial level); the District Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at districts, district-level towns, and cities under provinces (commonly referred to as district level); the Communal Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at communes, wards, and commune-level towns (commonly referred to as communal level). At each level, there is a Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
- Below the communal level, there is a Working Committee of the Front at the residential area.
The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has the following duties and powers:
- Democratically consults to issue the annual Coordination and Action Program to implement the Action Program of the National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front;
- Democratically consult to elect the Presidium, appoint, replace, dismiss the titles of Chairman, Vice-Chairman - General Secretary, and Vice-Chairmen of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; appoint, replace, dismiss Committee members, Presidium members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (except for dismissal due to disciplinary actions regulated in Article 33);
- Decide on recognizing, dismissing member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at the central level (except for dismissal due to disciplinary actions regulated in Article 33);
- Participate in building the Communist Party, the State; conduct supervision and social feedback as regulated by the Communist Party and state law;
- Decide the organization of the next term's National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
