The powers of the Vietnam Association for Mechanics include:
- Propagate the principles and activities of the Association.
- Represent members in internal and external relationships related to the Association's duties and powers and the provisions of law.
- Protect the legitimate rights and interests of members in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Association and the law.
- Participate in programs, projects, research topics, consulting, criticism, and social assessment at the request of state agencies; providing services on issues in the field of activities of the Association in accordance with the law.
- Give opinions on legal documents related to the field of operation of the Association in accordance with the law. To propose to competent state agencies issues related to the development of the Association and the fields of operation of the Association. Participating in organizing training and retraining in the field of mechanics when fully qualified and organizing other service activities as prescribed by law.
- Coordinate with relevant agencies and organizations to perform the Association's tasks.
- Establish and manage organizations with legal status directly under the Association in accordance with the law to perform a number of tasks in accordance with the Association's principles, purposes, and fields of operation.
- Raise funds for the Association on the basis of members' membership fees and revenue from service activities in accordance with the law to self-finance the operating expenses.
- Receive legal funding sources from organizations and individuals at home and abroad according to the provisions of the law. Receive financial support from the State for activities associated with the tasks assigned by the State (if any).
- Join the respective international organizations and sign and implement international agreements in accordance with the law after obtaining the agreement of the competent authorities, the state management agency in charge of the industry or field of operation, and the agency that decides to allow the establishment of the Association on joining the respective international organizations, signing and implementing international agreements.

The tasks of the Vietnam Association for Mechanics include:
- Comply with the provisions of the law related to the organization and operation of the Association. Organize and operate according to the approved Association Charter. Not to take advantage of the Association's activities to harm national security, social order, morality, fine customs and traditions, the nation's traditions, and the legitimate rights and interests of individuals and organizations.
- Comply with the guidance, examination, and inspection of the competent state agencies in the observance of the law and the implementation of the Charter of the Association.
- Gather and unite members; organize and coordinate activities among members for the common interests of the Association; strictly implement the principles and purposes of the Association in order to participate in the development of fields related to the Association's activities, contributing to the construction and development of the country.
- Disseminate and foster knowledge for members, guiding them to comply with the laws, regimes, and policies of the State and the Association's Charter, regulations, and policies.
- Represent members to participate in and make recommendations to competent authorities on guidelines and policies related to the Association's field of operation in accordance with law.
- Conciliate disputes, settlement of complaints, and denunciations within the Association according to the provisions of law.
- Develope and promulgate the code of ethics in the activities of the association.
- Manage and use the Association's funds in accordance with the provisions of the law, the Association's charter, and its regulations. Report on financial finalization on the receipt and use of funding from foreign individuals and organizations (if any) in accordance with law and send it to the Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant agencies.
- Report on the organization and operation of the Association to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and other ministries and branches related to the activities of the association no later than December 1 of each year.
- Make and store at the headquarters of the Association the application form, the list of members and branches; dossiers on the establishment of representative offices, units under and under the association, books, financial documents, assets, and minutes of meetings of the Board of Directors.
- Perform other duties as prescribed by law.
