On May 04, 2024, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No. 377/QD-TTg approving the Planning of the Central Highlands region for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050.

* Development Perspectives:
Develop the economy rapidly and sustainably, harmoniously combining economic, cultural, and social development with resource and environmental protection, while simultaneously tying these to national defense, security, and foreign affairs as key, overarching tasks. Focused economic development should target sectors with advantages such as agriculture, tourism, agricultural processing industries, renewable energy, bauxite mining and processing, aluminum, and alumina. Restructure the regional economy towards prioritizing green and circular economies; transition from agricultural production to agricultural economy, in line with the national and regional socio-economic development strategies and higher-level planning.
Build an advanced Central Highlands culture with a strong national identity, characterized by unity in diversity, respecting the distinct cultural values of different ethnic groups, making the culture of the Central Highlands a driving force and foundation for regional development and integration. Protect and promote cultural heritage, traditional values, and cultural identity of the ethnic groups of the Central Highlands. Accelerate new rural development; reduce poverty rates, stabilize population, especially among ethnic minorities and in remote areas; improve access to basic social services, reducing the disparity between regions and ethnic groups within the region. Ensure that everyone has access to healthcare, education, and quality basic medical services. Improve literacy rates and the quality of human resources to meet the demands of integration and development in the new context.
Protect the environment, using natural resources efficiently and sustainably, especially forest resources, ensuring water security, which is a pressing requirement for the Central Highlands. Emphasize forest protection and development linked with forestry economy, stabilize and improve living standards, and livelihoods related to forests; protect soil to develop sustainable, high-efficiency agriculture that meets new trends. Strengthen coordination in managing river basins, proactively prevent and manage natural disasters, and respond to climate change.
Ensuring security and national defense is the top priority for the Central Highlands in conjunction with the entire country. Strengthen national defense capabilities, maintain the all-people national defense posture and people's security. Enhance the development and promotion of the great national unity bloc. Harness high cultural value, revolutionary traditions, spark aspirations for development, self-reliance, self-strengthening; ensure social order, discipline, safety, and health for the sustainable development of the Central Highlands.
Enhance linkages with the Southeastern region, Central Central Coast, and South Central Coast provinces, seaports, major economic centers nationwide, and countries within the Mekong Sub-region, the Development Triangle Area of Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam, and ASEAN countries. Organize spatially rational and strengthen linkages among sub-regions, economic corridors, development hubs, rural-urban systems, functional zones; develop modern, synchronized infrastructure systems, gradually modernize, taking transport infrastructure and digital infrastructure development as a catalyst for regional development; in compliance with the spatial arrangement of nature conservation areas, security, defense zones; leverage advantages and specific development conditions of each sub-region; enhance the efficient use of natural resources, conservation of ecosystems. Develop urban and rural residential points suitable to the unique natural conditions and cultural identity. Prioritize stabilizing residential points, residential land, production land for ethnic minorities, in line with new farming practices and production methods.
* Vision to 2050:
The Central Highlands will be a sustainable development region, with a green, circular economy; forming large production areas for industrial crops, fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers, and a national center for renewable energy; developing high-quality tourist areas, becoming attractive destinations for both domestic and international tourists.
Eco-space with rich cultural identity. Forest ecosystems will be conserved and developed. Modern and synchronized infrastructure will be important foundations to boost the Central Highlands' connectivity with national major economic centers and international economic integration. The cultural identity will be promoted and become the foundation for development.
Balance development between economy and culture, society, and environment protection; ensuring people live in prosperity and happiness.
National defense, security, social order, and safety will be firmly ensured; a peaceful, friendly border, and cooperative development. By 2050, some provinces in the region will be part of the well-developed group of the nation.
