According to the Decree No. 111/2018/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government, in 2020, the day November 20 will be continued not to celebrate across the country. So, what activities will there be to thank teachers this year?
1. When to celebrate the day November 20?
According to Decision No. 167-HĐBT in 1982 about Vietnam Teachers' Day issued by the Council of Ministers, Vietnam Teachers' Day is held uniformly throughout the country on November 20 every year in all schools at all levels, in the fields of kindergarten, cultural enrichment, high school and pedagogy. This year is the 38th anniversary of Vietnam Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2020).
One of the principles when organizing the anniversary of the establishment, the traditional date specified in Article 4 of Decree No. 111/2018/NĐ-CP is that "the celebration can only be held in the round year". And according to this regulation, a round year is the year with the last digit "0". Thus, it is not until November 20, 2022 (i.e. the 40th anniversary) to celebrate Vietnam Teachers' Day.
2. Activities permitted by law to be held on the 20th of November this year
According to Clause 2 Article 9 of the Decree No. 111/2018/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government, the school may organize propaganda, education, emulation, seminars, talks and other practical activities in this year.
Concurrently, Decision No. 167-HĐBT in 1982 and Circular No. 26-TT-1982 also specify as follows:
- For all levels and branches: It is necessary to assign leaders to visit teachers, organize intimate meetings with teachers, on this occasion, it is possible to organize rewards for teachers with achievements.
- For schools: It is necessary to have rich and compact forms of activities such as introducing teacher traditions; recount the most profound memories in the teaching profession; extract reading students' letters sent to school; invite students with many achievements in production, study, work and combat to the school to talk; seminars on honors and responsibilities of teachers; educating job and children love for students at pedagogical school; organizing cultural and sports activities, etc. Moreover, schools need to preliminarily review the emulation and launch a new round of emulation in order to perform well the tasks set out in the first semester.
Although there is no celebration, all the above activities need to be carried out solemnly and practically, avoiding the form of fanfare, causing trouble for students and students' parents.
