The Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 takes effect in Vietnam from January 01, 2025, which includes regulations on various types of road signals.

Article 11 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 specifies that road signals in Vietnam include:

(1) Traffic Controllers' Signals

The signals of traffic controllers are regulated as follows:

- Raising the right hand straight up signals all road users to stop;

- Extending both arms or one arm horizontally signals road users in front and behind the traffic controller to stop; road users on the right and left of the traffic controller can proceed;

- Raising the right hand forward signals road users behind and on the right of the traffic controller to stop; road users in front of the traffic controller can turn right; road users on the left of the traffic controller can proceed in all directions; pedestrians must cross behind the traffic controller.

(2) Traffic Lights

Traffic lights have three colors: green, yellow, and red; and may display the time or not. Road users must comply as follows:

- Green light means go; in the case of pedestrians or wheelchair users in the road, drivers must slow down or stop to yield to pedestrians or wheelchair users;

- Yellow light means stop before the stop line; if already on or past the stop line when the light turns yellow, continue moving; if the yellow light is flashing, drivers can proceed but must observe, slow down, or stop to yield to pedestrians, wheelchair users, or other vehicles;

- Red light means stop.

(3) Road signals

The signals of road signal are regulated as follows:

- Prohibition signs to indicate prohibited actions;

- Warning signs to alert of potential dangerous situations;

- Mandatory signs to indicate actions that must be followed;

- Instructional signs to guide directions or important information;

- Supplementary signs to provide additional explanation to prohibition signs, warning signs, mandatory signs, and instructional signs.

When a location has both fixed and temporary road signal with different meanings, road users must comply with temporary signs.

(4) Other Types of road signals

- Road markings to indicate lane division, position, direction of travel, or stop location.

- Guideposts and guardrails to indicate the safe boundary of the roadway and the direction of the road.

- Barriers to prevent people and vehicles from passing through.

- Reflective studs and posts to convey information and warn about road segments and lanes.

- Kilometer markers and H posts to provide road information to users.

- Road acoustic signal devices to help warn of danger to road users.
