To strictly handle acts of illegal trading in poultry and poultry products of unknown origin in Vietnam is notable point specified in Official Telegram 426/CD-TTg dated 18/5/2023 issued by the Prime Minister .
The Prime Minister of Vietnam asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to direct the market management force to strengthen measures to control market circulation, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of illegal transportation and trading of animals and animal products into Vietnam, and illegally trade poultry and poultry products of unknown origin on the market.
The Prime Minister of Vietnam requested chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities, especially border provinces and cities, to strengthen the capacity of the veterinary system at all levels in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Veterinary Medicine 2015 and the direction of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly, and the Government to ensure resources to effectively implement the tasks of animal disease prevention and control.
In addition, chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities also need to do the following:
- Strengthening inspection, supervision, and control, especially at border gates, trails, openings in border areas, seaports, riverways, etc. to prevent, promptly detect, and strictly handle cases of illegal trading, slaughtering, and transporting of poultry and poultry products into Vietnam.
In the event of detecting illegally imported poultry and poultry products, they must be re-exported or destroyed immediately; strictly handle organizations and individuals that commit violations.
- Directing police forces, border guards, and customs, the local Steering Committee 389 strengthens measures to fight and prevent acts of transporting and trading in smuggled poultry and poultry products across the border;
Coordinate with local authorities to promptly arrest and strictly handle cases of illegal import of poultry and poultry products; organize propaganda for people in border areas about the dangers of avian flu and the harms of trading and transporting poultry without quarantine and of unknown origin.
- Establishing working groups to inspect and urge the control and prevention of the illegal transport and trade of animals and animal products into Vietnam.
- Focusing on building areas and facilities that are safe from animal diseases according to the regulations of Vietnam and the World Organization for Animal Health to promote exports.
