Below is guidance on updating information on traffic accidents on traffic accident database in Vietnam under current regulations.

According to Article 18 of Circular 63/2020/TT-BCA, duration of investigation, verification and handling of a traffic accident without sign of a criminal offence in Vietnam is as follows:
- Upon receiving notice of a traffic accident, the Traffic Police must investigate, verify, and resolve within 7 days; if the traffic accident involves complex circumstances requiring further verification, the timeline may be extended but not exceeding 30 days from the date of receiving the accident notice. If expert assessment is required or additional time is needed for verification, document and evidence collection, the authorized individual must report in writing to their direct supervisor to request an extension; the extension must also be in writing, and the extension period must not exceed 30 days.
- At the end of the investigation and verification period, the Traffic Police must issue an Investigation, Verification, and Resolution Result Notification for the traffic accident according to form no. 14/TNDB issued under Circular 63/2020/TT-BCA and proceed with handling according to administrative legal regulations.

According to Article 22 of Circular 63/2020/TT-BCA, guidance on updating traffic accident information into the traffic accident database system in Vietnam is as follows:
- The Traffic Police must document all traffic accidents occurring on routes and areas assigned for patrolling, control, and violation handling into the Traffic Accident Monitoring Log and update accident information into the traffic accident database system as follows:
+ Within 12 hours, initial information about the accident must be immediately updated into the system, including: Time, location of the accident, number of deaths, number of injuries;
+ During the process of investigation, verification, and resolution of the traffic accident, the Traffic Police officer continues to edit and update additional information related to vehicles involved in the accident, such as: license plate, brand, type, inspection certificate number, inspection validity, vehicle owner; information about the driver, pedestrian, and victim: full name, birth date, gender, nationality, occupation, address, driver's license number, validity, license class, injury status, use of alcohol, beer, drugs, or other strong stimulants prohibited by law; investigation results, conclusions on the cause of the accident and other related information;
+ For district-level police not yet equipped with the traffic accident database system, they must send complete traffic accident information in writing to the provincial-level Traffic Police Department for entry into the database system. The provincial-level Traffic Police Department is responsible for urging district-level police to provide complete traffic accident information for entry into the traffic accident database system.
- Once all information is fully inputted into the system for a traffic accident, the Traffic Police officer sends a request for completion approval. The leadership of the agency or unit reviews and approves the information entered to complete the traffic accident case file in the traffic accident database system, or disapprove, requiring the Traffic Police officer to correct information to be accurate against files and documents collected during the investigation, verification, and resolution of the traffic accident.
- For traffic accidents occurring on routes and areas managed by the Traffic Police agency or unit assigned for patrolling, control, violation handling but investigated and resolved by the Investigative Police Agency, the traffic police agency or unit responsible for the route or area must coordinate closely with the Investigative Police Agency from the scene examination to the conclusion of the investigation; receive investigation results, and resolve the traffic accident of the Investigative Police Agency (information on related vehicles, information on vehicle operators, victims, pedestrians, Decision to prosecute the case, prosecuting the accused, Investigation conclusion or other related documents) to fully input information into the traffic accident database system.
- For traffic accident case files in the traffic accident database system containing incorrect information, or if deletion or unlocking is desired (for approved completed files), the Traffic Police officer reports to the agency leadership to send a request to the Traffic Police Department for deletion or unlocking.
- Within 7 days from the conclusion of the investigation, verification, and resolution of the traffic accident, the agencies and units must complete the entry of full accident information into the traffic accident database system.
