Below are the regulations on traffic on highways in Vietnam according to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024.

According to Article 25 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, the regulation on traffic on highways is as follows:
- Drivers, operators of specialized motorcycles on highways must comply with the following road traffic rules:
+ Before entering the highway lane, a signal must be given and the vehicles on the highway must be given the right of way. Observe vehicles behind to ensure a safe distance before entering the rightmost lane. If there is an acceleration lane, the vehicle must use it before entering the highway lane;
+ When preparing to exit the highway, observe the guiding signs and gradually move to the rightmost lane. If there is a deceleration lane, the vehicle must use it before exiting the highway;
+ Vehicles must not drive on the emergency stopping lane and the shoulder of the road;
+ Other road traffic rules as specified in Chapter II of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024.
- Vehicles may only stop or park in designated areas; in the event of a technical failure or other force majeure requiring stopping or parking, the vehicle may stop or park in the emergency stopping lane in the same direction as traffic flow and must signal by using emergency lights. If the vehicle cannot move to the emergency stopping lane, emergency lights must be used, and a warning sign or light must be placed a minimum distance of 150 meters behind the vehicle. Quickly report to the Traffic Police agency to perform tasks ensuring order and safety on the route, or the highway managing authority.
- Specialized motorcycles with a design speed lower than the minimum speed specified for highways, four-wheel motor vehicles carrying passengers, four-wheel motor freight vehicles, motorcycles, motorbikes, similar vehicles to motorcycles and motorbikes, rudimentary vehicles, and pedestrians are not allowed on highways, except for persons, road traffic vehicles, and equipment for the management and maintenance of the highway.
According to Article 45 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, regulations for ensuring road traffic order and safety for passenger transport vehicles in Vietnam are as follows:
- Passenger transport by automobile must comply with the following regulations:
+ Pick up and drop off passengers at the designated locations; instruct the use of safety equipment on the vehicle; take measures to maintain cleanliness within the vehicle;
+ Transport passengers according to the registered schedule and route, except in cases of force majeure;
+ Do not transport passengers on the roof of the vehicle, in the luggage compartment, or allow passengers to hang or cling to the outside of the vehicle;
+ Do not transport hazardous goods, prohibited goods, smuggled goods, wild animals, odorous goods, or animals and other goods that affect passengers' health or the environment;
+ Do not transport more passengers, luggage, or goods than the permitted load or violate other legal regulations;
+ Do not transport goods in the passenger compartment.
- Drivers and service personnel on passenger transport vehicles have the following responsibilities:
+ Implement the regulations in clause 1 of Article 45 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024;
+ Before departure, check safety conditions of the vehicle and instruct passengers on road traffic safety and emergency evacuation;
+ Guide, require, and check that passengers comply with clause 2 of Article 10 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024;
+ Check the arrangement and securing of luggage and goods to ensure safety;
+ Maintain order and hygiene inside the vehicle;
+ Cooperate in carrying out other tasks as requested by the Police Agency in maintaining national security and public order and safety;
+ Comply with other road traffic rules as specified in Chapter II of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024.
