Vietnam is entering the peak season of storms in 2024. The following are the current regulations on the production of broadcasts on forecasts and warnings about typhoons in Vietnam

According to Article 9 of Decision 18/2021/QD-TTg, regulations on the production of broadcasts on forecasts and warnings about storms, rough waves and rising water levels due to storms in Vietnam are as follows:
- Typhoon Near the East Sea
A typhoon near the East Sea alert is issued when a typhoon is active outside the East Sea and is expected to move into the East Sea within the next 48 hours.
- Typhoon Over the East Sea
A typhoon over the East Sea alert is issued when a typhoon is active over the East Sea and is not expected to directly affect the mainland of Vietnam within the next 48 hours.
- Emergency Typhoon Alert
An emergency typhoon alert is issued when a typhoon is expected to directly affect the mainland of Vietnam within the next 48 hours.
- Typhoon on Mainland Alert
A typhoon on mainland alert is issued when one of the following conditions is met:
+ The center of the typhoon has entered the mainland of Vietnam and the strongest winds are still at level 8 or higher;
+ The center of the typhoon has entered neighboring countries, but the strongest winds are still at level 8 or higher and have the potential to directly affect Vietnam within the next 24 to 48 hours.
- Quick Typhoon Alert
A quick typhoon alert is issued during an emergency typhoon alert or in cases where the typhoon exhibits complex developments.
- Final Typhoon Alert
A final typhoon alert is issued when one of the following conditions is met:
+ The typhoon has weakened into a low-pressure area;
+ The typhoon has made landfall in neighboring countries or exited the territory, no longer having the potential to directly affect Vietnam;
+ The typhoon has moved out of the East Sea and is not expected to return to the East Sea.
- Large Waves and Storm Surge Alert Due to Typhoon
A forecast and warning for large waves and storm surges due to a typhoon is issued immediately with an emergency typhoon alert.
- Natural disaster risk level 3 includes the following cases:
+ Forecast of tropical depression and typhoon level 8, level 9 active over the East Sea (including the Spratly, Paracel Islands); coastal waters; mainland areas in Northwest, Viet Bac, Northeast, Red River Delta, North Central, Central, South Central, Central Highlands, South Vietnam;
+ Forecast of severe typhoon level 10, level 11 active over the East Sea (including the Spratly, Paracel Islands); coastal waters, mainland areas in Northwest, Viet Bac, Northeast, Red River Delta, North Central, Central, South Central, Central Highlands;
+ Forecast of very severe typhoon level 12, level 13 active over the East Sea (including the Spratly, Paracel Islands).
- Natural disaster risk level 4 includes the following cases:
+ Forecast of severe typhoon level 10, level 11 active on the mainland of South Vietnam;
+ Forecast of very severe typhoon level 12, level 13 active over coastal waters, mainland areas in Northwest, Viet Bac, Northeast, Red River Delta, North Central, Central, South Central, Central Highlands;
+ Forecast of very severe typhoon from level 14, level 15 active over coastal waters; mainland areas in Northeast, Red River Delta, North Central, Central;
+ Forecast of typhoon from level 14 or higher active over the East Sea (including the Spratly, Paracel Islands).
- Natural disaster risk level 5 includes the following cases:
+ Forecast of very severe typhoon level 12, level 13 active on the mainland of South Vietnam; Forecast of very severe typhoon level 14, level 15 active on the mainland areas in Northwest, Viet Bac, South Central, Central Highlands, South Vietnam;
+ Forecast of super typhoon level 16 or higher active over coastal waters; mainland areas in Northwest, Viet Bac, Northeast, Red River Delta, North Central, Central, South Central, Central Highlands, South Vietnam.
