Provisions on the Medal of Glorious Soldier in Vietnam​

1. Provisions on the Medal of Glorious Soldier in Vietnam​

According to Article 57 of the Emulation and Commendation Law 2022, the "Medal of Glorious Soldier" in Vietnam is stipulated as follows:

- The "Medal of Glorious Soldier" is awarded or posthumously awarded to military personnel, workers, officials, and public employees of the national defense sector under the People's Army; officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, and workers in agencies and units under the People's Public Security who have completed their assigned tasks well.

- The standards for awarding or posthumously awarding the "Medal of Glorious Soldier" to individuals specified in Clause 1, Article 57 of the Emulation and Commendation Law 2022 are as follows:

+ The First Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier" is awarded or posthumously awarded to individuals with a continuous working period of 20 years or more;

+ The Second Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier" is awarded or posthumously awarded to individuals with a continuous working period from 15 years to less than 20 years;

+ The Third Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier" is awarded or posthumously awarded to individuals with a continuous working period from 10 years to less than 15 years.

- The awarding or posthumously awarding of the "Medal of Glorious Soldier" to individuals specified in Clause 1, Article 57 of the Emulation and Commendation Law 2022 who have spent time performing duties at sea, on islands, or in areas of particularly difficult socio-economic conditions as per regulations by the Government of Vietnam, or are assigned international duties, is specified as follows:

+ Non-commissioned officers and soldiers under the People's Army and the People's Public Security who perform duties for a period of 1 year or more are awarded the Third Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier";

+ Military personnel, workers, officials, and public employees of the national defense sector under the People's Army; officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, workers in agencies, units under the People's Public Security who sacrifice their lives and are recognized as martyrs, with a duty period of less than 1 year, posthumously receive the Third Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier"; with a duty period of 1 year to less than 5 years, they posthumously receive the Second Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier"; with a duty period of 5 years or more, they posthumously receive the First Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier"; if the total working time already qualifies for awarding the "Medal of Glorious Soldier" but has not yet been recommended for commendation or has been awarded the "Medal of Glorious Soldier" but does not yet qualify for a higher rank, it is posthumously elevated by one rank;

+ The duration of performing duties at sea, on islands, in areas of particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, or assigned international duties of military personnel, workers, officials, public employees of the national defense sector under the People's Army; officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, workers in agencies, units under the People's Public Security is calculated with a coefficient of 2 when calculating the working time for awarding the "Medal of Glorious Soldier" of various classes as specified in Clause 2, Article 57 of the Emulation and Commendation Law 2022.

2. Regulations on medals in Vietnam

According to Article 54 of the Emulation and Commendation Law 2022, the regulations on medals are as follows:

- Medals are awarded or posthumously awarded to military personnel, workers, officials, public employees of the national defense sector under the People's Army; officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, workers in agencies, units under the People's Public Security who have a good working process and complete assigned tasks; foreigners with significant contributions to the construction and protection of Vietnam.

- Medals include:

+ "Victory Flag Medal";

+ "For National Security Medal";

+ First Class, Second Class, Third Class "Medal of Glorious Soldier";

+ "Friendship Medal".
