Hanoi Law University (hereinafter referred to as "School") is a public university under the national education system, a non-business unit directly under the Ministry of Justice, with the function of training undergraduate, master, and doctoral degrees in jurisprudence and other related disciplines consistent with the goals and development direction of the University; legal scientific research; propaganda, dissemination, legal education, and legal advice.
The school is under the direct management and direction of the Ministry of Justice, the state management of education, and the Ministry of Education and Training.
The school has its own seal and account at the State Treasury and banks in accordance with the law.
The school's international name is Hanoi Law University (abbreviated as HLU).
Thus, Hanoi Law University is a public university under the national education system, a non-business unit under the Ministry of Justice.

Specifically, according to Clause 1, Article 3 of Decision 868/QD-BTP in 2015, the organizational structure of Hanoi Law University in Vietnam is as follows:
The School Council is organized and operates in accordance with the Law on Higher Education, the University's Charter and guiding documents.
The Principal is the representative of the University before the law and is directly responsible for managing and operating the activities of the University before the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Education and Training, and the law regarding the performance of the assigned duties and powers of the University.
The Vice-Principal is the person who helps the Principal in the management and administration of the School's activities; is assigned by the Rector to directly manage a number of fields and tasks; and takes responsibility before the Principal and before the law for the assigned work areas. The number of vice presidents of the University as prescribed by law.
The Science and Training Council has a President, a secretary, and members; has an odd number of members, from 11 to 25, including: the rector, a number of vice principals; heads of a number of faculties, institutes, and functional departments in the university.
Representatives of lecturers and researchers of the school holding the title of professor, associate professor, or doctorate; some representatives of scientists involved in training and scientific research activities of the university, not full-time lecturers or permanent managers of the University (if necessary).

The establishment, merger, separation, and dissolution of the units in (4) shall be decided by the Minister of Justice on the basis of the proposal of the Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel and the Rector of Hanoi Law University.
The functions, duties, powers, and working relationships among the units under the University are prescribed by the Rector.
