1. Forms of expressing commands of traffic controllers in Vietnam

According to Clause 7.1, Article 7 of QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT, the operator's command is expressed by hand, flag, stick, or traffic control light signal. To attract the attention of traffic participants, traffic controllers, in addition to using the above methods, also use horns.

2. Latest traffic controller's orders in Vietnam

The traffic controller's orders according to Clause 7.2 and Article 7 of QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT are as follows:

- Hands raised vertically to signal traffic participants in all directions to stop;

- Two arms or one arm spread horizontally to signal traffic participants in front and behind the driver to stop; Traffic participants on the right and left sides of the driver can go in all directions; The driver's left arm folds back and forth behind the neck to signal traffic participants on the driver's left to go faster, or the driver's right arm folds back and forth in front of the chest to signal traffic participants on the driver's right to go faster;

The driver's left or right hand is at waist level and raised and down to signal traffic participants on the left or right of the driver to slow down; The driver's left or right hand is raised vertically perpendicular to the ground, signaling traffic participants to the left or right of the driver to stop;

- Right hand raised forward to signal traffic participants behind and to the right of the driver to stop; Traffic participants in front of the driver are allowed to turn right; Traffic participants on the left side of the driver can go in all directions; Pedestrians crossing the street behind traffic controllers are allowed to pass;

At the same time, the left hand is raised forward many times, parallel to the right hand, signaling traffic participants on the left side of the driver to turn left in front of the driver.

3. Regulations on the use of traffic police siren signals in Vietnam

According to Clause 7.3, Article 7 of QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT, regulations on the use of siren sounds in traffic control by traffic police are as follows:

- A long, strong whistle is a command to stop;

- A short whistle is allowed to go;

- A long whistle and a short whistle allow a left turn;

- Two short, strong whistle blasts signal danger to slow down;

- Three short, quick whistle blows are a signal to go quickly;

- Blow continuously, repeatedly, and strongly to signal the vehicle to stop for inspection or to signal a violation.

4. Effectiveness of traffic controllers in Vietnam

The effectiveness of traffic controllers according to Article 8 of QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT is as follows:

Traffic participants must strictly obey the traffic controller's orders, even in cases where the orders conflict with the signals of traffic control lights, signs or road markings.

5. Classification of traffic signs in Vietnam

Classification of traffic signs according to Article 15 of QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT is as follows:

Road signs in this Regulation are divided into the following 5 basic groups: prohibition signs; command signs; danger and warning signs; signposts; auxiliary signs, signs written in words.

Signs on highways and foreign roads must comply with the regulations stated in international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.

- Prohibition sign group is a group of signs indicating prohibitions that traffic participants must not violate. Prohibition signs are mainly circular in shape with a red border and white background, with drawings or black numbers and writing representing the prohibition, except in some special cases.

- Group of command signs is a group of signs to signal commands that must be obeyed. Traffic participants must obey the instructions on the signs (except for some special signs). The signs are circular in shape on a blue background with white drawings that represent commands to notify road users.

- Danger and warning signs are a group of signs that let traffic participants know in advance of dangers on the road to proactively prevent them in time. The sign is mainly in the shape of an equilateral triangle, with a red border, a yellow background, and a black drawing depicting the event that needs to be signaled.

- Directional sign group is a group of signs used to provide information and necessary instructions to traffic participants. Signs are mainly rectangular, square, or arrow-shaped, with a blue background.

- The group of auxiliary signs and signs written in words is a group of signs intended to supplement the content of the sign group in Clauses 15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 15.4, and Article 15 of QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT or used independently.
