The reporting of environmental protection in Vietnam by agencies and units is guided on the timing according to the Law on Environmental Protection 2020.

1. Guidance on reporting of environmental protection in Vietnam 

The reporting of environmental protection in Vietnam is stipulated in Article 118 Law on Environmental Protection 2020 as follows:

- Annually, the reporting of environmental protection for the previous year is carried out as follows:

+ The People's Committee at the district level reports to the People's Council at the same level and the People's Committee at the provincial level before January 31;

+ The Management Board of industrial parks, export processing zones, high-tech zones, and economic zones reports to the People's Committee at the provincial level before January 31;

+ The People's Committee at the provincial level reports to the People's Council at the provincial level and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment before February 15;

+ Ministries and equivalent bodies send reports on the situation of environmental protection tasks to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment before February 15;

+ The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment prepares a report on the national environmental protection work to present to the Government of Vietnam to report to the National Assembly at the first session of the year.

- The main content of the environmental protection work report includes:

+ The current state and trends of soil, water, and air quality; natural heritage and biodiversity;

+ The general socio-economic context and its impacts on the environment;

+ Environmental protection activity results include pollution source control; management of solid waste and hazardous waste; management of soil, water, and air quality; pollution treatment and environmental quality improvement; environmental incident prevention and response; protection of natural heritage and biodiversity;

+ Environmental monitoring and warning systems;

+ Policy and law development, administrative procedure resolution, supervision, inspection, law violation handling, complaint, and denunciation resolution in environmental protection;

+ Conditions and resources for environmental protection;

+ Results of environmental statistical indicators implementation;

+ General assessment;

+ Directions, tasks, and solutions for upcoming environmental protection.

- The reporting period for environmental protection work is from January 1 to December 31 of the reporting year.

- Environmental protection work reports are submitted in paper or electronic form as per legal regulations.

- The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment provides guidance on the preparation of environmental protection work reports; guides and organizes the evaluation of the environmental protection work results of ministries, equivalent bodies, and provincial People's Committees.

2. Regulations on environmental statistical indicators in Vietnam

Regulations on environmental statistical indicators in Vietnam are stipulated in Article 117 Law on Environmental Protection 2020 as follows:

- Environmental statistical indicators are a part of the Vietnamese statistical indicator system, aiming to measure and evaluate environmental protection activities towards sustainable development, in line with the United Nations sustainable development indicator system.

- Environmental statistical indicators include national environmental statistical indicators and sector-specific environmental statistical indicators related to natural resources and environment, implemented according to the provisions of Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and statistical law.

- Ministries, equivalent bodies, and provincial People's Committees organize the work of environmental statistical indicators within their sector, field, and area of management; annually report environmental statistical indicators to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

- The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment develops, guides, and organizes the implementation of the environmental statistical work; issues the environmental statistical indicator set for the natural resources and environment sector.
