Vietnam: Urgently strengthen the management and control of harmful alien species

Recently, the Prime Minister of Vietnam has issued the Directive No. 42/CT-TTg on strengthening the management and control of harmful alien species.

In order to promptly prevent and control invasive exotic species, the Prime Minister of Vietnam requests:

- Ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, heads of government-attached agencies, and chairmen of the People's Committees of central-affiliated provinces and cities shall direct the strict implementation of the provisions of the law on cultivation, development and trading of harmful alien species; strengthen the management and control of harmful alien species according to their competence and assigned functions and tasks;

- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam shall assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with other ministries, branches, localities and relevant agencies in, expeditiously summarizing and evaluating the results of the implementation of the Scheme on prevention and control of harmful alien species in Vietnam by 2020 according to Decision No. 1896/QD-TTg; etc.
